Oh no!

Nasty scar that, these can be repaired or replaced, as long as everyone is fine. The cost to repair that will vary greatly depending on where you end up taking it. Hopefully no parts required.

I don't mind what is needed to repair the damage, as long as it is done well.

Labour rates will vary £40-£80ph, hopefully nothing wrong with the ad blue. Some skilled blending required probably the full bottom half upto the first door crease. Insurance companies have a tendency to send you to where works for them. Hope you get a good repair done right first time.

My better half was heading into a car park. A car came out and my wife took avoiding action and ended up scraping along a boulder at the side of the road. To say we are upset is putting it mildly.
If it's only a small consolation, I'm pretty sure if only one panel was damaged like that it'd be an insurance job. Your excess will be same if it cost 3k or 6k to put right!

Must be heartbreaking, but by the time it's been in the bodyshop it'll come out looking like new :D

Recently had a claim for damage caused to rear offside panel and bumper partly pulled off by a HGV who " didn't see me " Anyway, I'm insured with C & MH underwriten by AXA. They asked me to find a repairer myself as it was a Campervan and many repairers don't do larger vehicles. Found a VW approved repairshop that would repair all VW vehicles. Did a very good job and were working on a GC when I collected mine. Whole experience was hassle free with a courtesy vehicle.

We did something similar- cheapest option was to get a new door and spray it. Not cheap!

Side bars have saved my bacon more than once.

Whose boulder is it? Have you got dashcam?

I did a similar crunch at a campground when I caught a metal firepit. Required a replacement door as body shop felt that any distortion of the slider frame would be a constant problem and impossible to rectify. Yeah, not cheap as I had to freight a used door from UK to Canada. Packed upright on a pallet.

Insurance company has been a pain. They won't let me use the bodyshop I trust who I know has experience with Transporters. He has said to bring it in after it has been repaired so he can check it and see it it has been done correctly.

Thats not good. If there is a problem its a little late. Can I ask which insurance company you are using and why they refuse to let you take it to the VW approved centre? Was the quote significantly higher?

It is Esure. The bodyshop is not VW approved, but he owns 2 Transporters, does a lot of work on Transporters. The bodyshop Esure have chosen somewhere else that has an OK reputation. I've just got the Cali back from the guy I trust after a car didn't put their handbrake on properly and bent the bike rack and scratched the bumper. This was a week before my wife's accident! The job he did was brilliant and he won't put the new bike rack on until the paint has properly hardened. Also he put the California badge on so it can be read properly once the bike rack is on.
