Hello from a Berghaus Cali from Birmingham & Exeter

Evening all, my old man who lives in Birmingham has picked up a 2012 Berghaus California, and has put me - who lives in Exeter - on the insurance, and we've got our hands on it for the next month - so going to enjoy using it around Devon and Cornwall, with plans for further afield over the summer holidays.

He has one question he asked me to see if I can sort out...

It has a rear wash/wipe on the tailgate (where else???) but as you can see from the photos it seems to have the wrong wiper stalk - there is no rear operation... we presume the stalk has been replaced for some reason, and they have put the wrong one on - the other side has the cruise control controls...

Is it an easy job to swap the stalks to the correct set?

Thanks - more questions to follow I am sure, but happy to know there is a group of helpful folk here ready to help...

Can you not push the wiper stalk away from you to operate the rear wash wipe?

Agree. Have you tried pushing the wiper stalk towards the dash? Conventionally there’s 2 actions, push part way back to start wiping, push further back to release wash water.

I tried, there was no play and didn't want to break it, but in the manual it shows that there should be forward and back arrows on the stalk, but ours doesn't have the two way arrow, only one way - forward/pull...

Thats what I would expect also. Very strange!

That stalk is none original.

They did do a few Berghaus in silver / grey - other than a badge & a few berghaus goodies there was nothing on them that you couldn't get on a standard van.

The wheels should be the black & silver Dakars though.

And we all know why/how stalks get trashed !!

Guessing he means while scaling the North Face of the Dashboard to summit in the pop top? Or else something that happens in laybys??

I have same year Cali/ocean the stalk should push away from you for it to work.

I was alluding to damage caused whilst persuading the steering lock to open!!

Or is it a stolen van?

So, we've worked out that it isn't the original stalk - thanks.

From what I can see, Berghaus Californias were available in three colours: Natural Grey, Reflex Silver and Olympian Blue, and the standard wheels were Thunders, and the Black & Silver Dakar wheels were an option.

No, Dakar were standard on a Berghaus, but fitted by the dealer rather than the factory along with the seat covers & bike rack.
