We will be flying from Gatwick South later in the year and will be using our Cali to get their and back. What do people recommend as I don't want to turn up and find their is a 1.8m height restriction. Is it worth getting valet parking or us at a waste of money?
Sorry for all the questions, but I've not flown from Gatwick in a long time.

You can use either short or long stay car parks. Long stay no restrictions, short stay has a limit although I can't remember what was, bit it went under ok.

I usually use the official valet parking at Heathrow & Gatwick for work trips. Cali height is fine.

Dont use any of the third party companies. Gatwick had an issue a few years ago with cars being parked in farmers fields / wasteland!

Over Christmas last year parked in Gatwick long stay. Had no problems. Found a good spot, car only on one side , path the other side, less chance of damage when people open doors.

I just liked the look of valet parking as it wasn't much more than regular parking.

Ch1pbutty, was it North or South Terminal at Gatwick? Will definitely only use official parking. I've seen the horror stories.

Recently booked the South Terminal Official CP for 23 days and the best deal was direct with the airport.
I always park and ride, keeping my keys on me. Nobody gets the keys to my Cali :rage

Have used both in the past. Great service.

Check with your insurance company too, some, like Comfort, require notification if the van will be unattended over 24/48 hours. They may also prohibit the handling over of keys to use valet parking.

If you explain its secure parking it should meet the requirement.

I was looking to book earlier and the long stay on airport Gatwick cp said bays are 2.4 x 4.8m, anyone had any issue with the 20cm over!

I was at Gatwick long stay a few weeks ago (South Terminal) - there were several vans parked up with no issue.

We always use the valet parking at Gatwick, both north & south terminals. Height is fine, some tight bends on the way up the entrance ramps but ok. Expensive but SO much easier especially if you're lugging skis etc. Our van is parked on the street at home so security at the valet parking isn't much of a concern for us.

I have used the valet parking at Gatwick and it was ok. The nice think is that in the winter the ice is removed saving you a job.

Have booked regular parking without height restrictions, but have booked security and passport control fast track.

We used the official meet and greet parking at Stansted, around 4 years ago. We had a BMW X3. It was left, washed and polished. Upon collection when we returned it mega dusty, tyres muddy up to the rims, alloys darkened with brake dust, 30 miles on the clock, and the computer said it had been driven hard in sports mode (15mpg), engine and wheels v. toasty. Plus we waited 30 minutes for it to arrive. Absolutely never again! :rage

I posed this question to my insurer, Caravan Guard, yesterday whilst renewing, and was surprised to be told that they do require notification when a van is ‘stored’ on an airport car park.
They asked that I phone about 10 days ahead with full details: they could agree or refuse to cover, and maybe ask for an extra premium, depending upon the duration and security arrangements.

Comfort say much the same. And I suspect they would veto any Meet & Greet valet parking.
