What digital cockpit screen do you use? Would be interesting to know if one is more popular.
Secondly. I briefly had Google Maps arrows in the middle of the two round dials digital cockpit screen, but they have vanished. How do I get them back?

Never had Google Maps shown on the Digital Cockpit, only the inbuilt VW SatNav. To change what you see between the Rev Counter and Speedometer you use the left/right buttons in the switches on the right side of the steering wheel. You can select I.e. Overview; tyre pressures; SatNav; Radio Station.

AFAIK you can only use the built in one or Carplay/Android on the main display. What you saw on the digital cockpit was the in built VW one. As @GrumpyGranddad says, use the right hand controls to navigate left/right/up/down through the various available options.

Thank you both. I've only had it a week, so still learning.

If you play around with the Settings, you can choose what info is shown inside the speedo & revcounter. One of the settings lets you show directions, it’s not a map just arrows & it is the info from whichever nav system is being used not just the vw one.

This works for me with Apple Maps, but not Google maps.

We have the central bit of the dash screen set on Maps, ready for when Google Maps fails on the main screen!

In the right hand dial we have a digital speedo, which we find is handy when going through speed control areas. Occasionally we’ll press a button or two in error, and tge dash display is changed - throws you when you’re used to the preferred setting!

As I was bored Ive done some further research.
Current van will not show directions for google maps in the dash unlike our previous one.
You can however run google maps on the media display, run Apple Maps showing directions in one of the dial centres & have the VW map between the dials all working simultaneously as the attached photos.
If you put the media display as a split screen you get the Apple Maps instructions on the media screen in addition to the google maps ones, I couldn't do a photo of that as it pops up whilst driving.IMG_1186.jpegIMG_1187.jpegIMG_1188.jpeg!

This is great, thanks. One of the reasons I use the VW nav is the 'next turn' on the dash. Google maps might have better traffic predictions, so I'll give it a go...

Thank you. Will have a play next time I'm in the bus.

I have the twin dials, altitude in the left dial (cos it's interesting to me) and fuel range in the right dial (you also get a more detailed/accurate fuel gauge too). Digital speedo and gear indicator are still in the "bar" at the bottom of the screen. Driving data overview in the middle. Works for me, particularly as I dislike the stock fuel gauge.

Decided to have a play with this as interested in @andyinluton 's answer.

We have a MY21 (July 22) Ocean with the upgraded head unit without dials.

As mentioned the "centre" map is always the VW one in the digital dash. In the pictures I set this and left it. This is never the satnav map (on our model anyway).

I then set the right digital dash inner dial to be navigation.

VW - Obvs
Apple Maps - Works fine
Waze - Nope
Google Maps - Nope

You could set the VW nav if you are using Waze and Google and get directions on the digital dash from that while using Waze on the main unit, but you have no guarantee they will be taking the same route.

Edit - This is Apple Carplay.

I'm using Apple so maybe also a deciding factor.

This isn’t specifically a VW thing, my understanding is that Google and Waze haven’t yet released updates that support the instrument display, it is the same for my non VW car

Blime, that’s impressive…and I like Bill Withers too…

That's a cracking question. We had turn directions in the middle and then I fiddled with the settings.

I could not find out how to get Google map turn directions back.

Until one day they started to appear again...

I think when you connect the phone up sometimes it auto displays the directions but I've checked every menu item and can't figure out how to select them if they don't appear.

Software...

I assume this is with the pro head unit only? I collect my new Ocean tomorrow (2023 ex demo) and it has the same head unit as my 2019 Tiguan. I know with that, if you have any app in CarPlay displaying a route, the dash map disappears and says CarPlay is in use.

That said, I can’t wait to get my new California and if that has been sorted it’ll be icing on the cake. Obviously, till it’s a year old I’ll use VW maps but like the Tiguan, I doubt I shall pay for extra years when I have CarPlay.
