Hi folks , I have seen this posted before but can see no resolution information. We have a 21 plate ocean , and when parked, experience a frequent whirring noise from behind dash / engine housing. This while on hook up or not, and without any aux heating use at all. The noise kicks in about every 2 mins. Does stop if we start ignition , then turn off and activate ‘inside camping’ lock inside. Any advice gratefully received.

Is it all the time? After stopping the engine cooling fan will run for some time at varying speeds and frequency to aid engine cooldown. If it’s in the first hour its possibly that.

If you open thend4ivers door the fuel pump primes. Is it that?

Thanks , however , this happens when the van has been just parked and when stationary for several days .

My thoughts are also it could be the fuel pump. If you open the drivers door, the van assumes you’re going to drive away. This will happen no matter how long it’s been sitting idle. I’ve not tested turning on camping mode to see if it changes things, but I doubt it would, as the fuel pump is to do with the van design, as opposed to camper design.

Is it the flaps in the ventilation system opening / shutting? they make a noise normally when everything shuts down. Are you using the "Ventilate" or "rest" functions on the heating system?

Thank you - appreciated

Thanks - we had a prior issue with our heating temperature and following this defo not on ventilate

Mine does this too. It doesn’t only happen when you open the drivers door. I can be on my drive and hear it doing it randomly, even though I may not have been in it for several weeks…

good to Know it’s not just us !

Same here, asked the dealer when it was in for service. Their response: it’s n auxillary waterpump you hear. No idea what the function of this pump is though…

Another load of sh1t from a dealer, what auxiliary water pump? What are they on about. Theres 3 water pumps I know of, one on the engine, one on the engine coolant heater, which only fires up below 5 degrees when engine is running, and one on the sink. Why would you have a water pump running for no reason? What utter crap
Edit theres washer jets and headlamp washers too. Which are mini water pumps, but i guess they aren't running either

There is an auxilliary water pump on the engine, keeps the coolant circulating after the ignition is cut when engine temps are high. It could be running until engine temp reduces and then firing up again if heat soak sends the temp up again.

Never knew that, but why would it run when its parked up for several weeks as said above? And surely it would flatten the battery

It’s not running constantly, just brief instances once in a while.

Would you not have installed an electronic system to keep rodents away?
I had one installed by my VW garage. It runs every minute (approximately), vibrates and stops working when the ignition is turned on. Oddly similar, isn't it?
However on mine, this system is not very audible, since especially in ultrasound.

@PengySass @M88GAV @Kemper-van Did any of you, or anyone else, get to the bottom of this noise?

We’ve had a noise on and off for six months since collecting the van - took a little recording of it earlier where you can hopefully make out the noise twice. The van has been parked up for about 5 hours, the roof is down, the doors and windows are all shut, the heating hasn’t been switched on, were in camping mode and we’re on electrical hookup.

Link to recording:

This has happened to us twice before and I never got to the bottom of it. The noise coincides with a flash of the door lock button on the drivers door. Can't recall if we were "locked in" for the night at the time. Pretty sure it was an open and close of the sliding door that put a stop to it.
