Picked up our new Ocean

Hi all, joined club and collected our new Ocean on Friday from Martin at SMG who was very helpful with an informative user introduction and some do's and don'ts,
Wonderful vehicle, lots to figure out but lots of info on here, had a play on my drive on Saturday like you do, got the roof up but roof will not come down evenly the near side dropping way faster than the other, only noticed when I stopped to sort out the bellows then noticed 45' tilt on roof.
VW assist came first thing Sunday and spent some time on it but to no avail, he had to dismantle and remove the info screen housing and lower roof manually.
Contacted dealership on Monday and am now awaiting further instruction.
Fingers crossed that the service department is as efficient as Martin.
Still we have got our (still wonderful Cali) after 11 months!

Wow, what an unlucky start. This seems to be a known issue with the roof so should get fixed quickly - search on here will show a number of people who have had similar challenges.

Not the start you’re looking for, and something I’d have hoped would be picked up during the dealers pre delivery inspection. As @dspuk says, this is a common issue and normally related to a defective hydraulic ram. The dealer should sort it out without issues (I hope! ). Hope you get to enjoy your new van properly soon.

That’s pretty disappointing but don’t let it spoil your view of your Cali. I’m sure , as others have pointed out the ubiquitous nature of this particular issue, it’ll get fixed.
We’ve had our Cali 3 years now and have come to the understanding that it’s complex but wonderful … enjoy

As we'll be collecting ours soon, did you raise the pop-top at the dealers to check..? Would that have shown the error..?

Just wondering if its part of the collection check list.

Yes we were given a run through on collection which included the roof failed on 3rd go, maybe have 5/6 trials in dealership

In hindsight, we weren’t that wise when we picked ours up. As we were quite familiar with the 6.1 Ocean, the handover was short of the usual user demonstration by the sales guy. We just wanted to get it home! Others beware - act like a numpty and get them to test all functions in front of you, then do it again!

Hi Pew - welcome to the forum and to your new California. SMG will sort out the roof for sure and we’re local to you so hopefully meet up, compare cans and admire them to boot!
