So I am about to take delivery of my new Ocean 6.1 and realized it does not have the awning specced on it. I was naive to think this was standard and somehow it got missed.

Am I able to add one after the fact? If so, is it the Fiama F45S or is it one of the thule awnings?
Is it easy to install myself?

Thank you!

It’s a Thule 5102, you need specific brackets for fitting to a California, the club shop sells them in. Light grey or black.

I also don't have such an awning hanging to the side and I consciously chose this. We hardly ever use an awning and if we want one we slide a folding awning into the string that fits into the standard rail, two extendable legs and pickets and rope and you're done: almost faster than the revolving awning and takes up very little space. Everyone has their own choice of course, but we opted for a separate awning.

Easy to retrofit if you have the rail. Orderable from VW dealer

Only problem is you are most likely only going to get one years warranty where if it came fitted to the van it would be 3 years.

He's in France and the warranty is 2 years. You lucky guys get 3 years

Personal experience. You don't Hear about Fiamma Awnings falling off because the awnings have Worn through the cheap and Nasty rivets holding It all together. It's Only my opinion . You Pays your Money you takes your chance.

yes. you can just buy one and fit it yourself. i'd keep my eye out for a 2nd hand one, they do come up.

Mine came apart at the seam after 3 and a half years. Managed to negotiate a deal with VW where Myself the dealer and VW all paid a third each. Very lucky to get that because VW refused to do anything for weeks but eventually gave in.
