A very ill bird violated my van yesterday afternoon while I was out and left a berry-filled cack on it which then baked in the hot sun for a couple of hours. I removed it as soon as I noticed but it's left me with what looks like some clear coat damage. Had a gentle go on it with some Menzerna finishing polish applied by hand on a micro-fibre cloth but it hasn't even touched the sides and I'm a bit reluctant to keep going at it. Any suggestions and does VW paint usually mark up so quickly?

Bird cack, ill or otherwise, is highly corrosive. PITA, for us as well as them! try this:

"A simple solution of baking soda and hot water will do the trick. In a 32-ounce spray bottle, mix a quart of warm or hot water with 4 tablespoons of baking soda. Shake and squirt the solution on any dry bird poop stain, allowing it to soak for 5 to 10 minutes. Then, rinse with a hose."

if it's gone through the top coat though might need a mini respray in that area.

Will give it a go with the baking soda once the sun backs off a bit and the panel cools down, thanks for that. I don't think it's past the clear the clear coat so am thinking a more aggressive compound might work but not sure I want to be the one to apply it :)

Let us know the results!

Didn’t work unfortunately, think it’ll need a proper job if I can’t live with it. It’s only really noticeable in direct sunlight, out of the sun you can barely make it out.

I’ve seen a few YouTubes of detailers using heat guns or heat packs to “reset” the clear coat and they appear to work, but its whether you’re brave enough!

Absolutely not brave enough mate, drawn the line at trying a polishing compound with a 3/10 cut, that’s it for me now. Have got a quote in from Revive! for £225 ffs, think I’ll keep looking…not paying that to watch a bloke hairdry my car for 2 minutes :)

Look at that thing steaming away :D Balls of steel to put that on the van

Maybe try the Autoglym super resin polish on a hot day.

Could start off with a hair drier.

I had a poo stain and tried the heat gun but got twitchy at the prospect of torching the bonnet! Unless it’s bad I’d be inclined to just live with it, nobody else will notice it!
Chances are that you’d fork out to have it done then a blackcurrant loaded Seagull will dump on it.

I know Eurovans get some stick on here but they said to take it in on Monday morning and their valeter will see what he can do with it. Fingers crossed! :)
