Recieved an email this morning advising that WeConnect is ending next month. Replaced by the Volkswagen app. Have downloaded the new app but not tried it out yet.

Seems to work and has same functionality as the old one - i.e. pretty much nothing useful, except the ability to see where you parked the van in an unfamiliar city!
 
Favourite destinations seem to be missing from the menu now. That’s one feature I did use a fair bit. I.e. select and send to vehicle.
 
Interesting, not received an email myself yet and thought I had a three year subscription to We Connect, does subscription transfer over to VW App.

The Cali on tour app does that, although very little else. Apparently it is a work in progress.
 
Not been able to get the remote unlock to work on the VW app yet. Worked fine on We Connect, so hoping it’s just a temporary connection issue.

What model year van do you have? it doesn't work on all years. Also won't work unless you've been through the full on security check with VW where you have to show passport & they have a look at you via a face to face quick meeting on screen.

Hmm I’ve just paid £109 to renew we connect for 2 years solely to keep the remote lock function- so I’m going to be fuming if it’s not working in the new app!! Off to download it now …

Lost the ability to turn the auxiliary heater on remotely. This was a feature on the we connect app (for my Grand Cali) but it’s not on the new app. :confused:

I have just downloaded the new VW app this evening, having previously only had the We Connect app and straight away it allowed me to lock and unlock the van which is also a MY2023 Ocean. It does seem to get stuck on screen saying it’s still locking or unlocking long after but it was pretty much an instantaneous action on the locks themselves.

Maybe worth logging out of the app and back in again to see if that somehow clears it for you
 
I’ve checked ours now and yes it does work with remote locking but is a bit slow. Does anyone know if a subscription is still needed to access this feature? If not I’ll be asking for my money back!

Tried and tested method of turning the phone off and on again has fixed it.

I don’t see it on the Weconnect app - are you sure it was ever there? I’ve always used the key fob. Adblue level isn’t shown though.

edit… just seen you’ve a Grand Cali, must be a vehice specific feature ?

In the new app I don’t see the status of windows, doors, bonnet and tailgate. In WeConnect I could remotely check on all of those - albeit it was often wildly inaccurate - but I had faith that one day they’d fix it. I guess the fix was to remove the feature..
 
Everything on the VW app on my android phone is in German. Anybody else have this?
Can't see anything on there to set to English.
 
As this app gives the location of the van (at least it does on my new 6.1), does it make a tracker redundant? And would an insurance company accept this as an alternative?

It doesn’t and they wouldn’t. Still needs to be Thatcham Approved S5 tracker (monitored 24/7 with ADR).

Same here - I don’t see remote aux heater option on new app for my GC, worked on old one.
I was looking forward to using that near end of a ski mountaineering day this winter to warm van up when I was nearly finished.

Do you have a heater Remote ? On my California the remote range is very significan especially if in line of sight. Have used it from top of Pen Y Faen, in the Brecon Beacons , to switch Parking Heater on in the Car Park at least 2 miles away.

Yeah got a remote on key ring - really that far ! I thought it would only be short range like a TV remote !

You'll be surprised. And, don't laugh, but the range can be extended by pressing against your forehead while pressing the button, and the same with the Central Locking remote. Try it.

I remember Clarkson doing that on Top Gear some years ago. I immediately went out and tried it.......... and it did to my astonishment
