I have a VW Cali 6.1 Ocean. I have notice an issue with the ACC (adaptive cruise control) that shows up in the following way:

  • On the motorway when in far left lane behind cars ACC works
  • When I overtake a car with ACC on in the middle lane of the motorway
  • It detects the car to the left of me and slows down to its speed (as if it was in front of me)
  • I have tried switching on / off - no result
  • Only way to get around is to use the accelerometer and reset after taking over
  • Is this right?
Regards,

Mike

It should only behave like that to cars to the right of you , its designed to stop you undertaking. Its normally clever & works out if you are abroad & switches which side its sensing.

Does your sat nave work properly ? just wondering if thinks you are in France.

In the dashboard display does the car its reacting to show up as to the left of you or straight in front? I wonder if your sensor is out of alignment.

You can override it by a gentle press on the accelerator, no need to reset afterwards.

Also using the indicators stops the van slowing down as it assumes you are going to pull out & overtake.

As per @andyinluton I have noticed that as soon as I indicate to change lane the van starts to accelerate when using ACC and behind a slower vehicle, before I have actualy completed the move. Takes a bit of getting used to but works well.

It should recognise that you are overhauling (but you do need to use your indicator)

Eventually I switched off this function in the car-software with my OBDeleven dongle, because in many situations you are allowed to overhaul on the nearside, but the ACC prevents this..

You can undertake - if you do as @andyinluton mentions above and gently press the accelerator and it corrects itself without having to switch it off. It does take some getting used to.

Never had this issue but I noticed an option in the Carista menu relating to overtaking on the right. Might be worth looking at your settings if you have (or can borrow) a Carista?

It seems when I indicate I do not get this issue. However yet to try it on motorway (only tried on dual carriageway)

By ‘issue’ do you mean no acceleration when indicating on a dual carriageway?
I get the acceleration on dual carriageway and motorway.

As @andyinluton says, your van appears to be behaving like you’re driving on the right. Our 6.1 ACC control behaves as it should in the UK, and last week in France it reverted to right hand driving (protecting against slower running cars to the left (overtaking lane). It immediately changed when back in the UK.

You can change this function in Carista ODB2 app. Just wonder if you’ve ever adjusted settings in Carista?

Had no issues here, stops undertaking, quick blip on pedal move on and acts correct to side. I know you can change in the vehicle settings easy enough. It works very different to our Tiguan, but one you get used to it it's all fine.

There are several threads similar to this floating around on the forum.

I’ve seen similar on a VW Golf hire car, where it suddenly decided I was in Europe and wouldn’t let me overtake (but would undertake). In my case the road sign recognition was also reading the national speed limit sign as 70 kph (ie 44 mph), so the car would also brake every time I passed a speed limit repeater sign.

My problem went away by turning the ignition off and on again, and clearly as a hire car it wasn’t my problem to fix! However, think others have been stuck in this configuration.

Worth doing a forum search to see how others got it fixed, but no doubt with some robust discussions with the dealer…

Good luck.

The adaptive cruise control works ok for me. I do find it it’ is fairly faultless when driving in Europe but in the UK it does have a tendency sometimes to become too focused on traffic in other lanes.
after a while of being back in the UK it gets better.
