Hoping someone can help, I'm trying to access my service history which has always been fine by VW, from what I've found it says contact a VW dealer so they can get it for me but the local one I contacted couldn't of been more unhelpful if they tried, is there a way I can access it online myself? Cheers

Any decent garage should be able to access it. Doesn’t need to be VW.

I think it is accessible via the OBD connection and subsequent read out. And of course your (or any) local VW dealer should be able to acces it via the VW dealer system. Unfortunately I do not know any consumer/customer solution on line....

Breeze Pool may provide an email copy if you ask nicely

Very very helpful dealer

Good question, and I’m not aware of any way of accessing online which other manufacturers provide. Keep a copy of the the invoices with the mileage and date of service shown. That was good enough when I sold Ms KB’s Tiguan recently. Otherwise it’s a pain to get the service record from VW, and tbh I have little faith in their ability to transfer records between different dealer groups. Some times the old ways are better, a stamp and written record worked well.

O yes! I second that. Very helpful and very responsive.

My van has been serviced by Breeze Poole every since purchase. A helpful bunch there, and personally for me, the Costa nearby, gives me a good option to work from while the van is being serviced.

On the service history, to test the process:
  • Email to Breeze Poole on Tue, 16 Aug, 23:23 with a request for the service history
  • Response from the lovely Joanne at at Breeze Poole Wed 17 Aug at 08:31 am.
I would call that super efficient service. What you get is a PDF with full details of the service history (sample below).

So yes, the process works. VW does maintain a history. and you get it if and when you ask for it (nicely though!) :thumb

Is that your record? Interesting that the mileage is shown as having reduced by nearly 2k between 8/20 and 8/21, could take some explaining come sale time. Maybe time for another email to the lovely Joanne to get the record maintained correctly; unless you've clocked it of course.

I was thinking the same thing. Seems the more services you have with a VW dealer the newer the vehicle gets..

Going forward always insist on a printed invoice / work sheet & stamp in the book when you get the van serviced, then its an easy reference point.

Dealer will say no need as its on their system, but its unlikely that they will share this info a prospective buyer due to data protection; Plus if Dealer should lose the data then you are stuck.

From what I am led to believe the data for any particular vehicle is held centrally by VW, not the Dealerships, and accessed via the VIN number. Just like the VW Erwin system which gives full information of your particular build vehicle.

Further to that, will your dealer supply you with warranty history?

I suggest anyone with warranty work carried out during the warranty period actually asks the dealer for a record,
otherwise how do you actually prove what was corrected and when, particularly for prospective buyers?

I would be interested to get peoples responses on this subject, particularly as it seems to be very very dealer dependant on whether they will supply that info or not.
my experience of this has been very very frustrating indeed, the dealer I use has been very very obstructive in allowing me full access to VW records, I resorted to going to another dealer, whom was brilliant in providing a full record, where my dealer would only provide an interpretation of what I asked for (I.e. my dealer would only supply an unofficial record on headed paper , not a complete print out of the VW records )

& stamp in the book
That’s part of the problem, you don’t get a ‘book‘ anymore so you are reliant on VW held records to prove service history.
In selling the Tiguan recently all the big buyers (WBAC, Motorway etc.) wanted the VW printout of the service record, although WBAC did accept original invoices showing services carried out with mileage and dates when I refused to waste time going through a VW dealer to get it.

Worryingly , mistakes can happen (see above) and data can be lost (look at the issues of extended warranty issues people have with “no record” despite having bought from the dealer)

why VW won’t supply proper paper records is beyond me other than cost cutting and the perception that they (VW) are in control of your vehicle records in future,
they (the dealers) make it neigh on impossible for any prospective buyer to access correct and full records unless you are already the owner of the vehicle, which is a direct contradiction to the sales BS.

Edit: non commercial vehicles can access the service records via the VW App, no such luxury for us poor old Van owners !
why is that, despite BS from VW, they haven’t made provision for commercial vehicles.

edit: I can see a real issue in 10 years time, if you haven’t got paper records and particularly if your van has been serviced outside the Approved VW network ! (Still I guess thats by Design in the imposed change )

If you don’t have a book, just get them to do a print out. It shows Reg, mileage & work carried out..then at least you have a hard copy.

I would have thought that invoices from the garage the work was done should be sufficient proof. Or if done yourself invoices for materials used.

Problem is many trust the BS that VW come out with Regatprding “easy access” to the vehicle records.

I agree get paper copies at every instance, however records can be lost and Warranty records for the customer are non existent (even if you ask )

a major step back for the customer

edit: see post #7, 8 & 9

I requested a paper service book from my dealer.

they have provided a very basic book, which states this is a “duplicate for Volkswagen vehicles“

i) it is a generic record and states “ this is a duplicate vehicle service history record book, as such the information entered within may not be truly representative of the actual vehicle service history “

ii) individual servicing tasks have NOT been included, as your volkswagen dealer will always be servicing your vehicle with the latest factory requirement.

I would suggest everyone requests a paper service book ( old Skool style), have the dealer fill out and stamp all services to date.

however Warranty records will not be entered into that service book !

Defo right about Breeze, I messaged them and they got back to me within the hour with the full service record and not just the service certificate that I was sent by the VW service centre Ive had the servicing done at. Compared to the VW centres I've been in touch with
Breeze were just brilliant.

As a matter of interest - did you buy your Cali from Breeze Poole? I too have found them extremely helpful and I only wanted a seat adjusting know for my then 12 year old van which wasn't bought from them.
