California Surf Model

Although maybe not: "It is equipped with essentials for camping and features a gas hob and two burners, a stainless steel sink with a removable washing-up bowl, and heated front seats."

How do they get seven seats? Has it got a front bench?

Similar to the Beach camper arrangement?

My guess is that it’s a seven seat beach + pull out sliding kitchen in the boot under the MFB; VW already offer similar as an accessory. ((Any kitchen pod in the living would mean that one of the seats would have to be removed to fit it in):

Three seat bench, two mid seats, Driver & passenger (front seats )

same as my T6 Beach
That's the same as my T6 Beach, but this says it has a hob *and* a sink, so would be an upgrade on a T6.1 Beach Camper, which only has a hob? If it has a sink too (unless this is an error) they need somewhere for fresh water and waste?

Ah, so it would be a Beach plus pre-installed pull-out rear pod?

Ah hold on…no mention of running water. Just twin burner & removable washing up bowl.

//…Surf trim features a two-burner gas hob and a stainless steel sink with a removable washing-up bowl..//

So possibly just an adapted version of the existing pop out burner kitchen thing. (below). Ie - additional burner + a plastic washing up bowl that sits on top of the stainless steel rectangle, or Just cut the rectangle to make a frame which the removable bowl drops into. Could also then put a removable chopping board over the top.

Wouldn't call that a sink, I think that implies a tap and drain, but that's why I don't work in marketing! :D
That isn't a twin burner hob either.

Thats photo 27 of 29, the number plate on the van shown earlier in the sequence is of a 4 year old van & the sequence also has a full ocean/coast kitchen shown.

If it wasn't for the lack of mention of a fridge I would have said the surf is just the coast under another name, with the reference to up to seven seats meaning in the whole California range rather than the Surf model.

According to this article the Surf replaces the Coast, so it’ll have the full kitchen, wardrobe etc.

Wouldn't put much store in that article. Wouldn't be surprised if it was written by ChatGPT AI.

Haha, look..... its a VW California! We'll buy anything as long as it's VW  :D:D:D

Apparently full details to be released along with revised brochure on the 21st March.

It sounds like a renamed Coast.
Full kitchen two hob burner and sink (but no mention of a fridge) and it has an Optional Awning

I suspect the mention of 7 seats is incorrect.

this article sort of confirms your thoughts, not much cheaper than a full fat Ocean though.

Only 4K below the Ocean. And that 68K doesn't even get you LED lighting. The Surf isn't really a value proposition with such a minimal price differential.

Nah, its nothing like a Coast!

But the new name is a very logical marketing change. It will appeal to many because of it's apparent life-style badging. I'd expect some licensed after-market surf accessories.

But wait…
Sounds like this is an Ocean, parking heater, rear aircon and the essential sink, hobs & storage etc, with a manual roof…

Could be an interesting van as we see the last of the Derv Calis…

Someone posted a part comparison sheet recently which mentioned the Waeco compressor fridge but no mention of a the parking heater.

Interesting 8” screen without Sat Nav.

I watched Wills Vlog.
He seems to think it’s an Ocean van without the roof and probably a few other bits like LED headlights etc.
The lack of satnav, I would imagine, will be Apple CarPlay. Nobody uses car satnav these days.

But I’m not aware that the 8” screen has ever been available without the Sat Nav cost. So interesting.
