Be a shame. Personally I’m not au fait with your views, but I do find your more general advice useful and knowledgable. I keep out of the rest. IMHO “remoaners” or “brexsh*ters” should likely keep a lid on politics of any form on a Cali forum. There are other places, like twitter, reddit or 4chan where one can have fights with total strangers with opposing views and achieve no outcome other than inner rage. I believe some of the older members call it the “good old days” where they could “banter” to their hearts consent. I think Jim Davidson called it that too. Neither wing will ever be placated by either side stating facts as they perceive them, so I honestly don’t see the point in getting into barneys.

In my opinion you're one of the most if not the single most useful person in these forums when it comes to technical knowledge about the cali. And you've helped me and countless others a great deal with things related to our beloved vans. Which is why most people come here in the first place. I don't know what this is about, but don't let politics or petty people on the internet ruin a good thing. Not for yourself or for the people you help around here and who would hate to see you go.

I am not aware of any thread being moved. I think one got stopped by the owners as was off topic from the original question.
I don’t think that can be a good enough reason for anyone to leave the forum?

Politics and religion have no place on here, they will always divide and cause controversy. Unless you count our devotion to Cali's as a religion?

You have been one of the most helpful folk on here, and if it wasn't for your posts that I found when I searching for ways to use the Beach or direct advice when I was asking questions I would not be anywhere near as organised as I am now nor would I have had as many fun times!

Stay and give the next batch of newbies the benefit of your experience!

I will not comment on Brexit; I have my idea about it and this is based on my thinking as a Belgian/European not as a Brit because I am not. If I was one and it were me, I don't know what I would choose. But this aside; for me no one should leave here, but some kindness and courtesy is sometimes missing, even with the managers. A post of mine has been deleted and conversations remains unanswered. I think there could be an explanation. The fact that HC is gone, according to me, has more to do with the sale of his cali. HC could get his teeth into something but now this is no longer a California or this forum. There are helpful people here and you are one of them, WelchGas. Although not everything is clear to me or I might have a different opinion, I greatly appreciate everyone's opinion. Keep it up

We’ve had some opposing views but on balance you clearly bring a lot to the forum @WelshGas, I’d be sad to see you go.

I took 3 months off a few months ago because I kept getting wrapped up in things, now I *try* stay out of it and come here for the good

If ever I see people with queries on this site and there of course are many of them, my first thoughts are that you will be along offering your wealth of experience.
In fact I refrain from hitting the agree button on so many of your posts just so as not to over do it.:D
Faceless ill willed forum comments are simply that.
Everything else is either debate, advice or friendly conversation.

Prolific posters like yourself can easily get worn down and can lose sight of whats what.
I was a moderator on a forum for a previous vehicle I owned so I speak from experience.
It's much easier to keep things in perspective from a bit of a distance.
You are a fantastic member of this forum and it would be a very sad loss.
Countless times you have helped people and there will always be be people with different views.
Thats all you need to let go of from what I can tell.
 
Echoing others please stay as value your input particularly on the technical side.

I joined this forum for all things California and vanlife.

One of the reasons for buying a van was to get away from it all and enjoy travel and the great outdoors this country and Europe have to offer.

I don’t come on this forum for Brexit or politics in general so wish people would stick to the thread topic.
 
At least we will have the 2016 stats to remember you by.

Hey @WelshGas I haven’t always agreed with everything you say (I don’t necessarily post about it) but your experience and knowledge is a great asset to all of us on here. For me, I choose to take the information I like and dump what I don’t.

I find this sad to read, I'm a newbie to the club, still awaiting delivery of my wagon. But I find the members' knowledge outstanding, when I eventually take delivery I'll hit the foot pedal running because of everything I've learned here.

Politics will always raise its head, unfortunately, we seem to have lost the art of debate. I will blame BREXIT as the instigator because it divided the country as an 'in or 'out' and we seemed to have positioned ourselves there. Right/Wrong, Left/Right Black/White. No longer middle ground, I love a good debate where I can give an opinion, listen to others and discuss and come away either learning something new or having my views listened to without being shouted down.

Let's rise above it, get around the campfire with a few beers, and put the world to rights.
 
While I can't agree with your politics as then we'd then both be wrong, I very much appreciate your depth of knowledge and contributions here regarding VW camper vans. I echo the sentiments of everyone else on this thread - don't go!

... and I am very sorry if was me that upset you and I promise never to enter into a discussion with you about the "B" word ever again. :cheers
