Hi All,

We ordered an Ocean in August and found out today it its still in stage 00 - “Assigned to factory order no production week scheduled”.

Have you just received your factory ordered van and if so, when did you order it?

Not sure if lead times are country specific, but we are in the UK.

The wait is killing us!

Thanks all.

Hi,
I ordered my Surf on 5th April and collected it on 30th Sept. Which I'd half expected, having had two previous California's from new. I'm sure it will be worth the wait!

I ordered beginning of September. Week 42 build. Confirmed by dealer that it’s been built and should be here in the next 6 weeks.

I gather 4motion models are heavily delayed. What is yours?

We ordered our Ocean late August and informed this week it is built and about 3 weeks away…..we hope

Ordered end of August been in Build since 9th October should be here start of December - I’m guessing more like mid December

Ordered 204 Ocean 2wd Sep 11th, told build was week 43, earlier this week was told it's now been pushed back to end of Nov, then was called yesterday by dealer and told it was in build this week. Now I don't know what to believe, or when it'll arrive....

Our Ocean (150) was ordered on 10 October and still awaiting a build date, been advised early January delivery is what we have been told to expect

3 months for me too, June 20th to 25th Sept

Can I tag on a question, how long did it take from build date to delivery?

Build date to customer delivery is typically 5-7 weeks. Around 2 weeks for the build (can be 3 weeks or more if waiting for parts, or around shutdowns) a week from factory to port, and 2-4 weeks for shipping to the UK. Once landed in the UK, the transfer to the dealer takes only a few days, and a week at max. VWUK require the registration and handover to the customer within 10 days of importation.

Our delivery took 11 months in all, with 7 weeks from build date (over Christmas).

I ordered mine last week of September. Build week is 1st week of Jan for delivery end of Feb, beginning of March. I’ve been told that the wood effect floor and Woodstock wheels lead to a delay. It all depends on the options specified by the sounds of it.

Ordered 2 weeks ago. Unconfirmed week 3 build. If that becomes confirmed, looking at mid - end March delivery. Perfect timing (hopefully)!

From order to pick up exactly 5 months. May 20th - Oct 20th. Some have been lucky and got there’s in 3. I suppose it depends on how good the Dealer is.

Do you think the dealer has any influence?

None whatsoever, nor does anyone who the customer can influence (unless possibly if you work at the California factory).
I do know for a fact that most dealers have a 'privileged' list or similarly named. So if you have a decent buyer profile, (ie you frequently buy many cars from the dealer) then the dealer can lean on the manufacturer. This is more common with the prestige brands such as Ferrari, Rolls Royce etc and can shortcut your waiting lists or get more limited edition models, but if you're a prolific buyer from your local VW dealer you could expect more expedient service...

Conspiracy theorist alert!… I wonder if dealers secretly ‘reallocate’ existing customers orders (and then reorder) to customers walking in willing to pay extra to get theirs early

Ordered 3rd July...then on 29th July we were told build would be week 48 (first week in Dec) and that we would see it about 6 weeks later. We complained upon getting that news, because we had been told to expect 2-3 months from receipt of deposit that we might have the van, Then on 23rd Sept we were told our van was finish being built! We collected it on 26th Oct, we could have had it the week before but we had family things to deal with. Beach Camper 150PS
