Any thoughts on the extended warranty? I’ve booked my Cali in for the DSG service and cam belt change as it’s coming up to 4 year old and I has 40k miles. When I booked it in the service manager asked if I’d be interested in the All in policy. Basically it offers 2 services (1 minor 1 major), 2 mots, 2 year roadside assistance and 2 years extended warranty for £850 ish. The vehicle needs to be less then 6 year old and less than 100k miles. I told him I would think about it. The vehicle also needs to have FSH. I can’t activate the policy until the DSG and cam belt done so I said I would have a think about it and have a chat with him about it when I see him. It seems a bit of a bargain as the 2 services at the dealers can’t be far off that cost. I’m seriously considering it.

We were offered this deal few weeks ago but we already had the two year VW Roadside assistance deal, purchased last year. It didn’t add up for us when this was taken off.
At the time our van was in for its Cam belt and Water pump replacement (4 years old) and glad for our extended warranty as turned out needed a replacement sensor, which at one point we were told would cost £1000 !
 
my god, i would jump that. Last service for my 2019 van was 866 euro, not even a major one. I just bought a new van and the extended warranty alone was 850 euro for three years extra (so to five)
 
Definitely worth it in my opinion. I was part of a focus group on various servicing packages and VW group’s offer was by far the best.
 
Took the deal earlier this year giving me warranty until 8 years old.
Used the full service & free MOT with one interim and Mot left at year 7.
Made decision to keep the Cali for longer time period easier.
 
Yes. Also try to get it in place before the van is four years old, so hopefully you can get the same deal again, just before the van is six years old. Don’t leave it until the last minute, because dealers and VW struggle to communicate efficiently. My dealer/VW failed to register my golf before it became six years old.
 
The obvious drawback is that VW service centres are truly hopeless at looking after Californias.
I honestly wouldn’t take mine anywhere near a dealer. Read the posts. The ‘rust already’ thread. Complete numpty chancers who are more likely to damage your van than fix it.
Just an alternative opinion. Of the people thinking it’s good value, I wonder how many of them have had anything go wrong and had it successfully fixed.

We had that on our previous Cali, it’s great value.
 
That’s it then decision made. I’ll activate the policy once the DSG and cam belt done in May. The Cali is not 4 year old until the end of June so all good and will get the mot done as part of the deal too. This is through VW van centre not the car dealers so hopefully the will be more clued up with the Californias than a normal dealers
 
I took out the two year deal a week before Amarillo turned 6. I think it offers value for money, and if it doesn’t, it gives peace of mind.

I cancelled our AA membership, which leaves our Skoda vulnerable, but our Skoda rarely strays far from home.
 
I had the All-In on my previous T6, a Caravelle. Got it at 6 years old wit a discount and was a little over £600, I actually didn’t believe the dealer when they offered to to me!. It paid for itself with 2x services + MOTs, so the break down cover and warranty were a big bonus. Now have a Cali 6.1 and intend to have the same All-In deal, assuming it’s still available, when the 3 years comes up, and then again before 6 years. Makes good sense in my book.

I have it on my Up, which is older.

I would not own a Cali without a warranty in place.

No mention of DSG service when I took it out.

If a gap between any VW warranty period and taking out the 2 year deal there is a no claim period before any warranty will be accepted.
Logical as it prevents anyone trying to get a current fault fixed for free by taking out the deal.

As an aside I had Warrantywise after VW 3 year ran out for 3 year period, I found that many independent garages won't do any work for them due to the hassle factor. My experience when a 'Moo valve' needed replacing was that I had to get forms filled in then get it diagnosed with a costing before being approved for repair. Replaced myself as much simpler and quicker.
