Hi, any views on extended warranty. Our new Ocean is due any day now and wondered if it’s worth it and how much it costs. Thanks, D&B

I would say it is worth it. Extending the full manufacturers warranty for an additional 2 years is a sound investment. For an additional 2 years/80k miles it costs £399 +vat or if high mileage user then it’s £549 + vat for an additional 2 years/150k miles.

VW warranty was an insurance based product and not the same as the first 3year one. The extended warranty after 3c years isn't the same as an extended warranty taken out at purchase time/point.

VW were offering combined service and warranty deals a while back so see what your Dealer can offer but check what is actually covered.

I purchased my 2019 Cali a year ago and it did not have the extended warranty. I am just about to venture into extending it with VW, which is actually a third party warranty provider. I would definitely take out the factory warranty. for you and the potential next owner

Check out the All In scheme before buying a warranty - it extends the factory one & covers servicing & breakdown cover as well.

I’d go with the factory extension, but I bought an ex-demo so it wasn’t an option for me.

My experience with the warranty part of All-in is poor. I’ll post about it once my current dispute with VW is finished one way or another in case it helps others. But in my experience the warranty part has too many ‘weasel’ exclusions. If you add up the servicing/MOT/AA cover and the bit left over is worth a punt on the warranty then maybe All-in is OK for you. I won’t be going for it again when mine is finished in 12 months and I’ve used up the services and MOTs.

That’s what I thought before I tried to use it. It turns out it is an insurance type warranty though…

I think theres a lot of people that would be interested to hear of your experience.

Definitely worth it! It hates saved us hundreds on workshop cost of sorting out a leaking oil seal.

I’d definitely get the extended factory warranty. Things tend to go wrong in year 4/5. There are other threads on the forum about this, which convinced us! I realise it’s probable ’too late’ but if possible, negotiate it into the sales price. You tend to get this sort of thing discounted. We (I) forgot to do this for our van, too excited to get it ordered !!

No brainer. We paid for ours the day we picked it up.

Thanks very much all of you. Really helpful. We will speak to our dealership tomorrow. D&B

I’ll do a post when I’ve got through my discussions with VW which hopefully won’t take long. I learnt some lessons on a few fronts!

This wasn’t my problem but this would not be covered under the All-in ‘warranty’: “The rectification of oil leaks is not covered and the cost of seals and gaskets will only be accepted where they are required as a direct consequence of a valid claim under the Warranty.”

People perception differs, it appears that there is not a consistent view from VW via the dealer network regarding the “all in warranty“

post #20 is of particular intrest, in the thread link.

We opted for it straight away and don’t get our Cali until mid December

I took out the All In plan on the very cusp of the 5 years .
The warranty does not cover oil leaks. Have a failed oil filter / oil cooler housing.
Pretty expensive so not cost effective in the event .
The from new 3 yr warranty does include oil leaks but not years 4&5.

I had the extended warranty on my 1st T6, which was always in & out for a lit eml, definitely worth it. Helped with selling it too.

Bought mine second hand from a dealer only found out it had a 5 year warrantee when I went to get a copy of history from main dealer, even tough I did not pay for it it’s probably saved me about 2k over year 4/5 I’m now going to go for the all in one as got a good relation ship with breeze.

Luckily got it thrown in FOC at point of order

No-brainer for me - I'm of a certain age and not interested in trying to fix anything on the go unless it's reasonably simple and within my limited technical grasp. Having read about the many things that can happen with these very sophisticated vehicles (and they have for mine) I'd rather someone else did the fixing - hopefully at no, or little cost, to me. Peace of mind is worth everything to me.
