My LWB TGE is coming near to conversion completion (at long last)and I am finding it very difficult and expensive to insure for value £85k and being parked on the street.
For the last 25 years my T4, T5 & T6 campers have been parked in the same place and have always been from new and top specification and value but I've never had this problem before.

The TGE is professionally converted whilst the others have been self-build.

Who are you folks using to insure your vehicles with please?

APlan or NFU. ?
Maybe try through one of the Camping and Caravan type Club schemes ?

We had a converted LWB Crafter a few years ago and insured it with Adrian Flux, they specialise in that sort of thing as well as kit cars etc.
Our GC680 (LWB) is insured with Comfort Insurance.

@rod_vw I’m also with Comfort.
A plan will require you to have a tracker fitted if that value is agreed, as do Comfort.
Might be worth asking on the Crafter self build group on Facebook.

My insurer Admiral wouldn't insure me on my new Cali, even though they've insured me on much higher risk sports cars previously. Go Compare wanted nearly £1,000, Just Kampers £800 I've chosen Comfort but they're insisting on a Thatcham Cat 5, 6 or 7 tracker to be fitted.....

Very happy with my recent renewal premium from Comfort. Also no insistence on a tracker.

My Sven Hedin is insured with Safeguard.

I live on a private estate and the van is parked in an area with security gates, but because it is not on a drive they have classed it as being ‘parked on the street’!

Not a LWB or a GC admittedly but had no trouble switching my 2015 Denby T6 conversion policy to a 2022 Ocean policy with CaravanGuard.
They insisted on an S5 or S7 tracker due to value but I’d have fitted one anyway.

A-Plan Thatham special situations branch have a good rep for conversions.

I know a couple of the others had a value limit. NFU covered my conversion fine the first year then went with a 100% increase in quote.

Insurance seems to have gone a bit barking lately, see evs and range rovers.

Have you got a contact for A-Plan Thatcham special situations branch as when I called their advertised number they said they couldn't cover me?

I've asked for a quote from the NFU but they haven't come back to me yet.

Have you tried Caravan Guard?

My renewal this month was a mere £40 more than last year and that included upping the estimated annual mileage.

As previousply mentioned, have you not tried Adrian Flux? This is exactly what they do? It doesn’t even need to be registered as a motor caravan to get the contents etc insured with them.

That's a great idea, one of the first that I called on Tuesday BUT although they promised to call me back they still have not. I've rung them twice more and all I get is excuses for not getting back to me.

Today's excuse was that they had tried to call my mobile three times during the day and I had not answered but there are no missed calls recorded on my phone. They even confirmed my phone number was correct on their records.

Oh, that’s not good! I used them for a few years with no issues. Hope you get sorted.

I contacted Thatcham via the office number but I think there was a guy very active on the Transporter forums that people recommended.

Sorry, I forgot to post the final outcome earlier in the week...

I've gone with Adrian Flux but I have reduced the value to £75,000. See listing below for my findings.
.
Note that I cannot guarantee the phone numbers as they are from my jottings on a big notepad
.
A-Plan01635879910 - initially much too high a value!. Re-quoted + £75,000 value with Sabre Insurance good price about £850 BUT only 30 days European cover. No use to us!
.
LV - Don't cover this type of vehicle!
.
Just Kampers01256 444546 - Now here's a thing they have quoted me around £1500 and with Markerstudy??
.
Adrian Flux - 0800 783 1392 - about £1420 which includes their required tracker included with this insurance period. Re-quoted + £75,000 value with Trinity Lane includes tracker at about £1300 also included excess cover.
.
Lifesure01480 402460 - As I only have one year NCB on this vehicle (seven years on another) will not cover. Would need a tracker.
.
Performance Direct - 01708 564181 - Can't cover due to value and on-street parking.
.
Admiral 0330 1343204 - about £1450 no tracker needed.
.
Comfort0208 9840777 - Can't cover due to value and on-street parking.
.
Safeguard0333 0608706 - Can't cover due to value and on-street parking.
.
Norton Insurance – Eventually after chasing them for an answer can’t cover at that value.
.
Currently still waiting for the NFU to quote, so given up gone with Adrian Flux.

Does anyone have a view on Adrian Flux for California insurance?

I called Comfort for a quote today, but they can’t insure due to on street parking in London. They actually suggested I call Adrian Flux, but I’d never heard of them until today.

Adrian Flux are a broker, they now handle the insurance of both my T6 Camper and the MAN TGE. In the case of the TGE the underwriter is Trinity Lane. Having never had a claim I have no idea how good or bad either is.

Just out of interest, if somebody has no alternative to on-street parking in London AND they have a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant, are they liable for the ULEZ charge every day even if the vehicle is not driven? I.e. if nabbed by a mobile ULEZ enforcement van.

Even if you make a short trip inside the zone using a vehicle that doesn't meet the ULEZ emissions standards, you need to pay the £12.50 daily charge. This includes residents of the ULEZ. However, you don't need to pay the ULEZ charge on a particular day if your vehicle is parked inside the zone and you don't drive it.
