Hi all.

Can anyone suggest a credible shower solution for getting a hot shower in a Cali. We’ve odmrdered the built in (cold) shower but would love to find a portable warm shower for longer trips away.

Thanks

Hi,

We use Hozelock Porta Shower 7L

Mix 3L of cold water with 1.5L of boiling water from the kettle, lid on, shake to mix, then pump it up a little. Give a nice warm shower, not luxurious, but definitely good enough to get a good wash and refresh. If we are off hookup and don't want to use too much gas me and my wife can get a shower each from one fill of the shower but it's nicer if you use a whole one per person.

We also use a large diameter but shallow tough tub as a shower tray

I have a Kampa Geyser. It's great but it takes up a fair bit of room. Changed the gas connector to a QR.
I found the shower it came with a bit on the slow side so bought this to go with it.

The water gets really hot, even on a lowish setting, so normally recycle the water into a 20 litre container until its a good temperature. Turn the Kampa Geyser off and then use the Colapz shower pump alone.

Probably the best way is to stay on a campsite that has showers. But there is other ways. We bought a portable shower, it consists of a 20 litre bag with a tap. At the bottom and a tiny shower head. The idea is you leave it in the sun and heats the water through the day. I can tell you it really works and the water can get extremely hot. You need to find a convenient tree...What a load of faff. But for £2.50 from home bargains.. Never actually used it as a shower but hot water for washing the dishes it’s excellent..

Did you realise that cold showers are so much healthier for you?
:)

I've got the Colapz shower as well - don't have a van yet (!) but bought it last year when it popped up on an Amazon glitch and I managed to get it with the matching stand and tent for around £100. The tent will also double up for a toilet and it all packs down with the shower and stand into a bag about 20 cm diameter and 100cm long.

I've tried it in the garden with some water warmed in a black solar shower bag and it was actually quite pleasant - 35 degrees or so, fine for a summer festival which is the plan. As posters have said above, easy to add some hot water from a kettle to the bucket instead if it's a bit colder.

I did consider the Joocla (link below), which isn't cheap but looks really impressive. The extra stuff to carry around and setup put me off.

Local swimming pool.
Also good for a sauna and jacuzzi ;)

That Colapz shower tent is amazing! Such good quality and so easy to put up and pack away!! Expensive though….

Definitely, had a few dry runs (well damp runs I suppose), testing it in the back garden for a week and was impressed. Plenty of height if you're lanky like me too.

Only a couple of trips so far this year..still “sorting out”..although l am only a solo traveller using touring sites..where do you store everything? I can’t imagine where you might store a shower!

The Colapz shower on it's own goes into a bag about the size of a large plate and about 10cms thick. You can get pop up tents that pack flat but the folding one I have fits in a bag about 20cms diameter and 100cm long. Through in a collapsible bucket and you're good to go

I have a Kärcher OC3 mobile cleaner with a 7l water tank and a battery that will last for 15 minutes, which is adequate for 2 navy type showers. It has an optional 12v power supply. A cheaper and more compact solution is a battery powered pump with a shower head that you can dip into any pail of warm water.
My ideal solution, unfortunately not available in Europe, would be the Companion AquaHeat with its lithium battery and small propane tank for heating the water.

I have the Joolca Hottap V2 shower. It's brilliant. I fitted an underslung 'Gastore' LPG tank with a BBQ point and run the shower from there.

Another vote for the Hozeloc 7l portal shower. Does 2 of us and is quite robust. Only use it in the summer though! Campsites for us when it's cold.

Hi Stuavo,
Have been thinking along same lines as yourself. Came across this promo video on YouTube from Hess Automobile Alpnach (Switzerland) a few months back.

Hi Stuavo,
Have been thinking along same lines as yourself. Came across this promo video on YouTube from Hess Automotive Apnach (Switzerland) a few months back. Looks the business! E-‘mailed them asking for details but and got an acknowledgement, plus a statement to the effect that the shower is only available if fitted in their workshop. There must be others closer to you and (west of Ireland) who could do the same work!
Yours Paul

I cannot recommend enough the decathlon shower:

  • 10L(perfect for 2 people)
  • watertight(so you can fill the water at some place and still travel
  • No electricity needs
  • black(so you can leave on the windshield for the day and have hot shower the evening)
  • easy to pressurize
  • quite cheap
  • Collapse nicely
  • available everywhere
I had 2 other system, they all had inconvenients

I’m looking at the Joolca. How difficult/expensive was the LPG tank?

This looks great. Ordered one.
The reviews and videos on Amazon are good. I like that I just need to fill a bucket with some warm water. V simple and the hook and sucker look like they would work. Once a year we go to a site with just one disabled toilet. A bit of a nightmare for 3 days so this might just work. Ta

I use one of these. A few foot pumps gets a decent enough pressure (capable of cleaning a muddy mountain bike). it’s self contained (needs no separate bucket), it packs way to nothing and being totally manual doesn’t need batteries or charging. In theory you can stick it on the roof in hot sun and get a warm shower via the power of the sun without adding any hot water. I’ve never remembered to do that so can’t comment if it actually works.

They do a bigger version too. Inevitably there are cheaper copies out there but these are well built and will last more than a season.
