Can use screwfix 800 watt generator to hook up ?

If so how long would a tank of diseal last approx running the fridge an night heater for about 4 hours a day .
Be interesting see people views that used one .
Handy if off grid for week or so

Probably, but you are likely to be unpopular with your peers. Most people use solar for this purpose and the van engine can work as a backup generator.

The question is - but why?

The leisure battery can last for over 4 days with both heater and fridge running. If the battery does drop, start the engine (heard that the 6.1 has a boost mode) and it will top up your battery pretty quickly .

In a Cali, always remember - more is less.

Sometimes off road well over 4 days , no the max charge or boost as you call it , takes hours an hours to charge leisure batterys so that is not an option

a better option then may be the ecoflow delta? charge while you drive and then use when stationary?

Expensive, when compared to a genny. If going for a genny, go for the honda as it lasts longer and is much quieter when compared to the screwfix one. A full tank, the honda eu10i runs for about 6-8 hours.

Those have been around for about 20 years now, brilliant bits of kit when first launched and sounds like they are still the ones to have.

Thread title refers to "Screwfix 800W Generator" and OP talks about using diesel. However I'm not sure what is meant - all the smaller gennies (including the Honda eu10i) use petrol not diesel.

Are you sure about that? Half an hour on our T6.1 used to do a significant top up. Plugging into the mains ( ie using a petrol generator) takes hours.
Seems silly to fill your load space with a genny & have to carry fuel when you’ve got one under the bonnet.

Ah might be problem with my charger then , i will contact volkswagon about that .
Could you give me an example, i.e
So if blue radiator icon was say a quarter full how long would it take to get to full charge all bars blue ??

Could be either my charger or leisure batterys not holding charge ?

Why use a genny to produce AC to then supply the onboard charger to convert back to DC?

If running the engine/alternator for 30 mins provides sufficient boost then just do that, or, build a small genny that drives an alternator to produce 12v DC.

Another option would be just add N number of additional leisure batteries (suitable change over switching would be required).

not sure why either. offroad for 4 days ? my t6 manages that just fine on the batteries alone. the 6.1 can't be that much worse can it ? just make sure you've given it a full mains charge at home before setting off
