Color advice

I've been dreaming of the copper/white combo for years, but now that we are finally purchasing, this option is no longer available. We also like the ascot grey and find it very subtle and modern. However, I'm having a hard time letting go of my original choice and am considering getting white and foil-wrapping the bottom in a similar copper color, maybe a little lighter.

Just wondering if anyone has experience with this and can advise if it's really worth the hassle, or if I should go with the ascot since it'll be good to go as it. I've been both colors up and close and while I still prefer the two-tone, I could live with the ascot.

I know this is a bit arbitrary, but I'm having decision paralysis and could use some outside perspective.

Two Tone over Grey everyday of the week! Life is fun, two tone is fun.
Ascot grey is well loved in this forum, it’s supposed to be lovely. But! After all is said and done it is ’grey’
I wonder if the grey would go well with a copper wrap?

We had a quote to spray the bottom half of our new Cali. Proper quality job, for the similar price of a wrap. You could then have a VW copper/white Cali, without the insurance problems I've heard a wrap can cause.

I wouldn't classify AG as distinctly grey. A lot depends on the prevailing light but every time I have seen it my mind goes to beige. I think a 2 tone with AG would look quite retro. Easy to check at the dealers as they should carry swatches of the 2 colours. Put them together and see if it works, but check them outside in shade and sun.

We found the colour choice more vexing that we expected, so I sympathise. I would suggest not ordering any colour until you have seen it ideally in a range of locations (in particular ascot grey, which is a chameleon). I wonder if you will be 100% happy with anything other than your dream?

A difficult decision! We have a copper 2tone coast - when we ordered I was keen to keep costs down and wanted ascot but my husband put his foot down and insisted on 2tone. A year on, the 2 tone makes us smile every time with the more ‘holiday’ vibe and is so eye catching, however I still think I would have been fine with ascot and saved myself £3k! My husband is happy we spent the extra as he felt more strongly about it from the start. We actually ended up buying an ascot grey polo this year and I love the colour, it looks different in all lights and really stands out. Good luck with your choice

Looking at the two options on my driveway I’m not at all convinced that ascot + copper would be a good combination- however as with anything related to these vans it’s all down to personal choice!

We had the same dilemma; originally ordered an ascot grey, then changed our order 6 months in when we saw a green and white two tone in a car park...... so pleased that we did, brings a smile to our face every time we see it!

Had the white/ copper two tone for 7 months. I quickly went off the colour combo.
Love my black.
I’d go for the Ascot. Or Black.
Go with the black :thumb

Maybe I'll look into that too. I'm keen on a more matte color with the white and I imagine it I would have more options with paint over a foil.

Sorry, I think I was a bit unclear. I wouldn't put the ascot with the copper, I'd do the white/copper as a combo or I'd just go with the ascot and leave it be as is.

I love the ascot too, but my problem is I love the two tone slightly more and since it's not available and I'd have to order the white and add the copper it as foil or paint, I don't know if it's worth the hassle.

Yeah I agree - was just making the comment as this had been a suggestion earlier in the thread. Love our 2tone but the ascot is cool too. If it were me with a new van I’d probably go for a vw factory finish over any aftermarket solution, whatever the colour but I’m probably a bit risk averse!

I think you're probably right and my husband is also leaning this way, but I feel shaky either way. I think what I also like about the two-tone is that it seems retro, but we also don't know how long we will live in Europe and if we have to sell the van someday, it would probably be easier if the color is original.

completely agreed, ascot grey is more beige/greyge, and then you will have both options to choose from, leave it ascot or make the bottom half a kind of copper/brown to match the ascot.
classic and subtile combination...

Are the insurance problems if the car gets damaged?

Avery Dennison Aqua Blue / Ascot Grey

My opinion is that the VW copper looks to brown in most light conditions, the exception is a very bright blue sky day. Brown and white doesn't do it for me. I like two tones and have one myself but if given the choice regardless of cost between "VW copper / white" and Ascot grey I would go the latter. There are some two tone wrap colours that work well with Ascot grey too. I think you also need to consider if the interior colour complements the extra colour(s) too.

We looked into wrapping our candy white Cali. I have heard negative things like it can last 10 years or sometimes can look shabby after a couple. My friend had a car done and where they cut the warp inside the door shuts, they cut through the paint and it rusted. On the other side, another mate had had a classic ferrari wrapped with clear plastic, I assume it's the same stuff and it's great.

I like cleaning and polishing my cars, I don't think you can polish a wrap. You can probably put wax etc on it but I should think you have to be careful.

I'm sure that there are some great wrappers out there but we decided to stick with the full candy white.

Personally, I like the brown/white combo, even with grey or black interior. I could go with a lighter brown color with the white since the copper isn't available from the factory anymore, but I don't know if it's worth the hassle of wrapping when I also like the ascot as it.

We had ours wrapped (lower half) from new 2018 cost £1.8k. 5 years on still looks good. I think 7 years maximum before re-wrapping. You can polish a wrap but I just used detailing spray to keep its glossy finish. However, someone reversed into the side of my Cali. Because wrap colour is no longer available the 3rd party insurance covered the cost for a full rewrap now £3+k ! Instead decided to have it re-sprayed similar colour to the wrap by VW approved bodyshop. The only issue I have with VW two offerings is the limited choice of colour combinations, even worse now, and they are not that unique.

Maybe I will look into paint from a VW bodyshop. It sounds like that would be easier to manage than the wrap.

Expect to pay £5k for lower half spray done correctly so that the coverage extends to same extent as a factory finish (doors sprayed off the van). A cheaper re-spray is £3k. This involves painting without removing the doors. Paint and clear coat will not wrap around the edges of these panels as well.

Thanks everyone who replied with advice. Given that VW no longer offers the white/copper as a combo and with the added costs and logistics of spraying or wrapping, I think in the end we will go with the ascot color. I would have picked the two tone if it was still an option, but I'm not convinced its worth adding it ourselves.
