Mobile phone charging

Hi all

Beginner question , apologies in advance.

I have bought a 2013 63 plate 140 SE Cali Ocean. When trying to charge my phone using the cigarette lighter in the front, it says it’s charging for a split second then comes off charge?

Anyone know why this would be? Many thanks

Really excited about the Cali adventures and hope my kids of 9 and 11 aren’t too old to enjoy it for a for years to come.

When I had those issues in my T6 it was due to the cable getting old and not connecting properly. A new cable sorted it.
Does you cable work ok elsewhere?
May also be the connector you are using in the 12V socket.
Can you try it in another socket and see if it works?

Thank you, the cable seems fine when connected to a power bank. I am thinking the cigarette to USB adapter might be the issue as I’ve heard some have more than 1 amp, which handles newer phones ?! I am just using a freebie USB adapter I’ve been given so I’ll try change that and see what happens.

While at it, it may help to change the cigarette adapter with a usb socket, preferably usb c.

The cigarette lighter socket and most of the adapters that go into it, will go busy very soon.

Thanks yes will look for those adapters that plug into the cigarette hole and offer USB C - assume that’s the best thing . Not too sure if you can change it any other way?

I meant, replacing the cigarette lighter socket with one of these

USB C & QC3 12 Volt Power Socket | Dual Port USB Power Outlet - Waterproof

USB C & QC3 Waterproof 12V Dual Port USB Power Outlet for Bike, Car or Marine Use

sinolec.co.uk

You will then not have a cigarette lighter socket but 2 usb ports.

I can see that you have a T5. I think the access to the rear part of the cigarette lighter is easier on the T5 if it is in the cup holder.

The 12v socket in the Cupholder draw runs off the Engine Battery.
The other 12v sockets run off the Leisure Batteries.

The quality of 12v to USB chargers is generally very poor. I’ve even had one that interfered with my DAB radio. I have found since that Anker seem to make good ones, about a year in and working perfectly.
