Hi, any recommendations for a good wind break please? Thanks.

We bought one, tried to put it up (Outwell), failed, put it away and never bothered since.

Great … I think we’ve got a cheap beach type tucked away in the garage somewhere.

as above - cheap beach one with a lump hammer. We got a funny coloured one a few years ago from Nazare in Portugal and every since it has stood us in good stead. Also have a beach umbrella that stays in the van and gets used when needed.

We’ve had a Vango one for years that works really well. Longer to put up than a traditional one but really secure when up.

Another vote for wooden pole ones, and the cheap plastic ones are fine, but I did find the slightly more expensive material ones to be more durable in high winds. The OLPRO ones are nice with different lengths and patterns. Like this one

I find the wooden poled ones bulky. I got a £30 one from decathlon, its small when packed away and lives in the van.

I too recommend the Jormax wind breaks, very robust and no guy lines, need a steel lump hammer (of back of an axe we use) to hammer the stainless steel poles.

A vote for Jormax too. Not the cheapest but certainly good - functionality and looks.

We have a cheap VW red/white windbreak with wooden poles which has been perfect and packs away with no issues. We got this at Camperjam this year.

We were thinking of a windbreak too, having seen some this year on various trips. Issue seems to be ‘hard standing pitches’ and difficulty with getting pegs into gravel/ stony ground. That is also becoming an issue with our drive away awning and also the standard van awning … some pegs are rubbish and some ground seems to be solid granite.

We have one of these, absolutely love it, easy to put up, plenty big enough to section an area off around your van and lots of cover too

Keep an eye on 'Go Outdoors' every so often they have special offers, we bought a large lightweight one (with take to piece poles), reduced by 50%, well pleased, although in strong winds it did need two to put it up.

Another vote for Jormax here, not the cheapest by a long shot but made to last and stands up well to high winds.

A pricey option but look nice:
There’s one of these on my site…..the owners left their 2 dogs in it whilst they went out for the day…..I only realised this when I walked past and the dogs barked at me! I’d never do that…all sorts of things could happen to them!

I had the cheap beach one for which I bought new wooden poles with metal spikes….but now have the outwell version….nice and small, but not yet used!

Thanks everyone … this is really helpful.

We have the Jormax ones, they’re very popular at dog shows. They are good, but have a couple of flaws.

1. They are very heavy and take up a lot of room.
2. The poles are just too long to fit in the ‘ski’ bit of of the boot, which means we have to move the rear seat forward a bit to fit them in.

They also take a long time to put up and you need a lump hammer to bang in the aluminium poles.
We tend to take them to dog shows or if we are going to be on the same site for a long time, otherwise we take a set of the cheap beach type ones with wooden poles.

Hi thanks for pointing out the flaws. Can I ask a dumb question, what is the ‘ski’ bit of the boot. Not come across this before?

Can’t remember the proper name, the long bit of the boot that extends under the rear seat, next to the cupboards on an ocean, where most people put an umbrella.
