No but occasionally the light goes red when I start the van (normally green). Switching off and restarting normally fixes it. I can live with it but will flag it when it goes in for a service. Suspect it might be a random Bluetooth pairing issue with my phone?

I don't think it has anything to do with your phone, as it uses the inbuilt sim to make any calls. ie you don't need a phone as well in the van for it to work.

Mine has initiated a few SoS calls at random - a message flashes up in the middle of the dash display, but goes out again within a second or two.

Interesting Andy. I don’t get the dash display message (other than ‘telephony unavailable’) but the overhead red light stays on occasionally.

I might be wrong bu doesn't "telephony unavailable" mean the built in sim cant get a signal/ isn't connected, rather than your mobile phone not working?

Next time you get it try & make a phone call?

Interesting reading.

I had the SOS system go red and flash a fault on the dash, but next time I started the van and since all has been green with no faults.

I get this fairly regularly. Booked in to be looked at but reading the articles above I don’t hold out much hope!

Not good!

interesting.. I’ve had the red SOS light and message twice, and the sat nav go awol by about 10 miles another time. All have cleared after stopping for a time and starting, but pretty poor if VAG knows about the problem but is still selling vehicles with this issue.

I had that today too. The usual green light next to the red emergency button on the control panel above my head was red.
There was also a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark (!) at the bottom middle of the dashboard.
I stopped at a supermarket on the way home and when I restarted it was all fine.
For me, I’d prefer the electric / hydraulic roof. Much more reliable than all than all the electronic crap added to the T6.1. (Sorry)

Obviously a common fault on the 6.1
Anybody mentioned it to their dealer yet?

I’ve had 2 calls in recent months from Citygate saying that they had noticed an amber fault being flagged on my van (over the air). I’m wondering if it’s this fault? Anybody else had a call from their elected workshop.

Did they suggest a software/firmware update was on the way?

Have notified the dealer of the fault, advised to let them know if it happens again and they'll get it booked in to be looked at.

Took our Cali into SMG Cowfold yesterday, picked it back up today for them to look at the 'Emergency Call - Visit workshop' message among a couple of other things.

They told me there's no fault and that if you have no signal when you turn the vehicle on that's what it will do. I pointed out the obvious holes in the story - i.e.
  • so you'd get a fault saying you needed to visit the workshop every time you turned the vehicle on if you happened to live somewhere with no signal
  • it doesn't then resolve its-self if you drive somewhere with signal
Slightly disappointed after the good things I've heard about SMG Cowfold, but hopefully just a 'miscommunication'.

Its not just VW - Ive had a recall letter today for the Mercedes to correct the behaviour of the emergency call system. Its seems to say that if it makes a SOS call there's a good chance it will give the wrong vehicle position.

That totally tallies with my location when it happened. And living where I do, not even remote, we have poor network. I’m lucky that doesn’t happen on my driveway...!!
So on a trip, basically if it switches off, as soon as you reach an area with connection you need to pull over and restart the engine... yet, if you travel into an area without signal, the green SOS lights stays on...
Totally Bizarre...

I have had no issues with the sos fault since ,but the van is booked in for the control unit to be changed, i have postponed the repair last week thinking it might be ok going forward should i cancel the repair, could the fault have be a one off?

I’ve not experienced the fault for over two months now. Just seems to have gone away at least for now - I don’t know if there was a software update applied over the air or by the dealer.
