But what is that reason?

Directional aerial. It can work over very long distances in line of sight. I’ve managed to switch on the Parking Heater from the top of Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons with my California in the car park at the bottom. Well over a mile away if not 2 miles.

You may be very young ... or you would remember these ... and they too had a pointy end ...

We grew up with this. I had that one pictured above in 1998 or 99

I know that it's capable of switching on the parking heater in my Cali from my bedroom, a distance of about twenty yards (or eighteen metres if you prefer) and it's one of the most convenient features associated with the vehicle as far as I am concerned.
