Downstairs bed mattress topper.... again... sorry!

I know it has been done to death but we are after a decent topper to soften the downstairs bed in our Coast. Size sleepers who like a softer bed. I'm looking at the duvalay freshtec as I'm concerned as hot sleepers of memory foam. Any experiences from similar sleepers appreciated. I know there are lots of options it's just I'm interested to hear from those who like a similar bed set up and what they've found works best please. Cheers
 
I read recently somewhere on here that you can now get a blow up one to suit. Might be worth looking into ?
 
I’ve used these self inflating mattresses for camping and have bought a sea to summit but not used yet as waiting for my California to be built!
You can adjust the firmness simply by adding or removing air.
There are now some alternatives that I believe are available in the club shop.
If you look on You Tube for “California Time” they have reviewed the sea to summit and recently one of the new ones

Hi I also got a sea to summit (awaiting van) but have seen these as an alternative for vw comfort mattress and wondered if they were any good?

Just a thinish topper, which was £32 from Dunlem, was enough to make it work for us. Personally I just couldn't be doing with the faff of inflatables. Cali living is a challenge in such a tight space and every accessory we buy has to go somewhere. I have just watched @CaliforniaTime Will's latest YT vid and couldn't believe the amount of faff (Sorry Will!) . I was "head in hands" watching him fold the mattress along it's length to deflate it upstairs. Sorry - not for me.
I need to lay the bottom bed flat, pull the VW mattress forward (Complete with preinstalled Dunelm topper and fitted sheet) and find my duvet. Job done. Anything else would cause a meltdown !

100%. We had an Outwell self inflating mattress in our 3 seat Beach not only was it still very firm but what a b****y faff every time you want to put it up or away.

This looks fab. I have a wool topper on a Relyon mattress at home and I think it super comfy especially for a hot side sleeper. May I trouble you for packed away size pls and ease of? Many thanks Jon

Whatever works for you Will. It certainly is a case of "each to their own" and I appreciate we all need to get a good night's sleep. It just needs to be simple for me, to maintain my sanity in such a small environment.

I’ve experimented with mine at home and found that you can open the valves, fold it (with bedding) as you would with a standard topper for storage on the rear shelf. Then when you come to unfold it in the evening the valves need to be left open for a short while for it to reinflate. Probably the time it takes to brush your teeth.
I’m not trying to sell the idea to you as you’re happy with your solution but providing a bit more feedback to anyone considering the self inflating mats.
For info, mine is for the lower bed, not the upper bed.

I also have found that deflating it when it's up in the roof is easier folding it towards you whilst standing on the chairs looking at it in the roof - ie folding it like you would if you were putting it on the rear shelf. My way in the video was just plain wrong LOL

We have Duvalays in our Beach. Wouldn’t be without them. They are brilliant buy pricy.
 
Lots say the duvalays and zone sleep are hard I'm after something that makes the bed softer. Happy with anything that achieves a soft topper!

Hi, we have the small double. Also have their pillows and quilt, really nice and pack down small.
 
We have the two individual ones that can push together to make a double. They pack down easier as singles. Also have the pillows which are very good. It’s a big outlay initially but like most things you forget the cost once you’ve got the benefit!
 
We have two duvalay 4cm Freshtec foam mattress sleeping bags which have integral duvets. They are fabulous. We use them downstairs and up top. They roll up quickly and easily. If I remember I think I bought a dingle bundle pack which has one set of spare bedding and I bought another single mattress separately. I had to negotiate this directly with Duvalay as at the time they were only selling the 5cm mattresses individually. We have never looked back and sleep better in the van than at home. We have the VW comfort mattress and the standard VW supplied one up top and we just roll them out on top of these.
 
Thanks! do you find the duvalay soften the bed at all? it is the firmness of the comfort mattress that is an issue. cheers

We have a duvalay and it is so comfortable. We also use it in the top bed when we decide to sleep up top.
