T6 Cali On Order
So we are about to pick up our Ocean, 4motion 204. I'm panicking as i don't remember seeing the option for the 80l tank. Have i messed up? What size is the standard tank? that's going to really annoy me now.

I think the standard tank is 70L. I guess if the paperwork isn’t clear for what you have ordered you could just run it near empty and see how much you can fill it (or see how much you can put in when the tank is half full if you don’t want to run it near empty).

The thing that confused me was not the volume of the diesel tank but the ad blue tank volume which is much larger in recent T6.1s.

If it's a brand new one it will be the standard size tank - 65-70 litres. They stopped doing the larger tank on 4 motion because of weight problems.

you will have a fuel guage display giving you the rough miles remaining. you can get around 400 mile on a tank of 70L. most people don't find this an issue

phew... 70L is more than enough. Our Vito has 55 and we find that OK. tanks for the replies. Strange though as I'm sure when i ordered it the options was not there so i assumed it comes with 80l as standard.

No 80 L on 4M...Enjoy your new family member ...remember the rules..upload a photo which you collect :)

With a heavy 4M Ocean , the 80L option remains desirable. Since refueling on Motorways/Autobahns is considerably more expensive , it's nice to have extra range, especially if planning on using also the diesel heater.
Another consideration, more range as well before it drops below 25% inhibiting the DPF regen.

It's not a game changer, but I am happy I chose it. Before the energy crisis i could drive from Germany/Austria to the Adriatic see and come back without having to refuel in Italy which it was way more expensive. Now Italy is way cheaper than Germany/Austria, so go figure...

ok, now that you've got the answer to your question .... what is it that really caused the panic? ;)

The beauty of the Cali is the zillions of customizations that you can do ... and there is a whole community that survives on customizations. If your van had a 40L tank, trust me, someone would have already developed a 40l addon tank.

Welcome to the mad world where you can make your van your own.

Enjoy the van when it arrives and make it your own! happy adventures.

Not true, at least for EU spec 204 4Mo Cali Coast's with towbar. I was told it would be deleted 18 months ago but the dealer confirmed my Cali was delivered with the 80L (option 0F5) tank.

That may be true for a 4motion coast but they have never been available here.

At the same time that people on here mentioned options being removed at build stage due to weight problems, the option of the bigger tank disappeared off the 4 motion configurator.

VW cut at as option for the Coast but apparently it got reinstated. Perhaps some weight savings were made elsewhere. :Nailbiting

It might be worth doing a check of the options you’ve selected, and also checking off the standard kit (which has a habit of being missed by the dealers). There’s a pick up checklist in the Resources section of the forum.

Our California has the 80 ltr option and it is useful for really long runs late at night. Having had a caravelle T4 for 20 years we have always been in the habit of filling up completely (60. + litres at a time,) but with the recent increase in diesel prices are now only putting in enough to cover the planned journey to save weight! In the T4 by doing this and removing the very heavy rear bench seat we are getting about 2mpg more just by hauling less weight. Get a couple of 20 ltr jerrycans full of diesel and carry them to get a feel of the extra weight!

My 2022 ocean 204ps 4motion was delivered with 80l fuel tank so I don't know what the policy is!

A litre of diesel weighs 0.85 kilograms. A litre of water weighs 1 kilogram. Passengers can weigh 80 kilograms ish.
Just make sure you travel alone and empty water tanks.....

There will be a PR Code on the build list for the vehicle which will show if 80ltr tank fitted..

Hopefully someone on here will know what it is as I've not been able to 'search' find it.

the standard 70L is code 0F3

Its possible, just means a reduced payload.

Once people start to add towbar, bigger wheels etc, then this reduces payload even more.

Seem to recall a period when 4M couldn't have the 80ltr tank then later it could. Was during the VW Emission figures reduction process.
Looked like the bigger ADBLUE tank capacity weight was part of the no 80ltr option but any logical reason gets dismissed when it is permitted again.

I didn't think its currently anything to do with emissions, its having the legal minimum payload which is a specific calculation, I cant remember the exact formula but its something like 75kg per belted seat + 15KG luggage per seat + 10KG per meter length of vehicle. If you cant meet that within the gross vehicle weight you need to remove a seat or two, or in the case of Irish GC680 remove a couple of seatbelts & register as a 2 seater at 3500kg.

The rules on this tightened up about 2 years ago, you now cant register a vehicle that doesn't comply & has lead to things like not being able to have an awning + towbar + 2nd bed on a GC600. (at 3500kg) You can however dealer fit a towbar after registration.
A Vw UP! you cant have a sunroof in combination with a space saver spare.

Quoted it earlier ... 0F5

This is whats so confusing. My full fat Coast 204 4Mo DSG, with wood effect floor, removable towbar and 17" wheels had the 80L tank reinstated.

Has to be more nuanced than that as those calcs don't take into account 150 vs 204, 4Mo, DSG vs 6 speed, manual pop top vs hydraulics. The Oceans pop top hydraulics and associated gubbins have to come with a significant weight penalty. However it was achieved I am glad VW managed to squeeze it on board.
