It is a very fine looking vehicle and looks to be very well designed in so many ways. I would have one sitting in front of my home except for the cost to actually purchase one.

what model Hymer-Mercedes does you friend have ?

We need some pictures.
The Mercedes is really nice, but I found it too big.
I choose the Ducato, right size, unfortunately it’s a Fiat…:D

have you seen the latest Ducato inside? very nice. I don't generally like Fiat, but the Ducato is without doubt a winner product. And the aftermarket on the Ducato camping accessories is huge as it's the chassis of choice of 85% of big withes, down from probably 98% a few years back as they couldn't deliver enough vans.
I love the Mercedes Sprinter and also the MAN/VW crafter, but to have a nice camper van you won't be able to stay within the 3.5t limit like the Ducato.

Hello,

If we would be on the market to change the camper I also would go for a Hymer. Not only that I believe they are good, but at least we have one authorized Hymer dealer in ROI.

If I can dream (well, I can dream) I would love to get the Hymer M-LT 570 CrossOver. Everything I wish is already standard in this camper. But the cost is EUR ~ 175.000. That is a bit much.

The biggest difference (in my opinion) between VW (Grand) California and other campervan / motorhome manufacturer is that other dealers are willing to install additional options e.g. different battery, LTE aerial etc. Volkswagen dealer just have to stick with the standard Volkswagen procedure (at least in ROI). It is understandable, but a wee bit frustrating if one wish / need to add some changes.

But we have the GC 600 now and we make the best out of it.

Regards,
Eberhard

We looked at the Hymer range and were really impressed, before buying a GC600 as that was all that was available. The first and a second GC went back due to a myriad of quite major faults. We then bought a new Fiat Swift Kon-Tiki, kept that for a weekend but that leaked and fell apart (literally) and we ended up with a Hymer Mercedes T-685 which was immediately available. The Hymer is a dream, quality is A1, and we have been so pleased we have ordered a new Masterline T 780 to our own spec which is due in July. We loved the size and driving experience of the GC 600, but the Hymer quality and Mercedes cab, tech and drivetrain are at a different level. The Hymer is expensive but the investment is rewarded. Not sure if that helps, but it is our experience of VW v MB. We have spent 61 nights away and travelled over 5500 miles in the Hymer since August. GC winter wheels, tyres and carpets still for sale!

I bought a 22 GCS and will soon be letting go of my Cali 4motion. Gcs is surprisingly easy to drive - it looks bigger than it actually is. Throttle response is very smooth (the only real fault I find with my T6 199 Cali). Finish is sub Cali level - maybe inherent in keeping it all below 3.5t but for sure build qualty is not impressive. That said I have not run across any real issues yet… Gcs is a great van if you want a dedicated toilet/shower space and full height cabin. Its a very different experience than the nimble Cali -more like a small motorhome and agreable to spend time inside when the weather is foul. Trade off vs Cali is parking access, no significant gain in interior storage and consumes 11-12 l/100 of diesel.

Interesting read - thankyou writing this. Is difficult find perfect solution!.

Is so many things must think what is better each family - i am like regular cali, easy quiet driving, easy parking - same than regular car. I am also like private toilet and immediate bed, but Gc I am not use so much as i like. Ocotober - this week is park all winter not go anywhere!.

We have a Hymer ML-T 570 Crossover on order for delivery Sept 2023. Had our Grand Cali 600 for over 2 years and like it as a unit but we are totally sick of the poor ownership experience provided by VW. The van has had every piece of habitation equipment replaced under warranty at least 3 times and the dealer has had the van for around a quarter of its life. Most things are now sorted but sadly we've just had enough of the VW poor product and service rollout COVID or no COVID.
We owned a IH N600RL 6m Ducato based van conversion for 5 years and covered over 25k miles in the UK and Europe prior to the current GC600 and experienced with very little/no troubles.
Let me know if anyone is interested in a 3 years old (in Oct 2023) currently covered 12k mile, well spec'd, best colour combo, A1 condition inside and out (brand new original alloy wheels and AllSeason tyres in storage) Grand California 600.

Hello,

I wanted to follow up from my post some day ago.

I just checked the price for the Hymer M-LT 570 CrossOver.

It is now EUR 186.000 :headbang :eek::rolleyes:, from EUR 174.000 a couple of weeks ago.

I wish I had a product to sell, that will go up in price every 1 or 2 weeks. But as long as there are customers willing and able to spend so much money for their hobby nothing will change.

Are really all reasons for price increase Corona, long lead times of parts, the war in the Ukraine, problems to get electronics, inflation in many countries? Hmm.... :(

Confused Grand California

I heard Andrew Ditton saying these companies are also not guaranteeing the price from point of order to delivery. Thats will probably mean thousands on top of what you think you'll be be paying. At least VW have consistently honoured the contract price.

We ordered our new Hymer Masterline 780 in November 2022, for delivery in September 2023, we were warned of no price guarantee and it went up over £3,700 in January and will go up again in August apparently. We had 2 disastrous GC purchases and a cancelled order (went up by £3,500 as the delivery was delayed!) and are so pleased we successfully rejected them, we bought our current Hymer 685 in August 2022 and have had no problems whatsoever - hence ordering a fully spec’d Masterline after only 6 weeks of ownership. Just back from Scotland and over 5,500 miles covered since new - not a single issue, quality all the way. Happy to pay the price increase for a cracking vehicle, our part ex price reflects the strong market for Hymer. Called into Brownhills on way home and saw 2 used GC600’s for sale. Can’t wait for our new 780. Have lots of new GC600 bits still for sale - must try eBay.

Hi, alas VW refused to honour the contract price on what would have been our 3rd GC600 last year, putting the almost £96k price up by £3,500 at the very last minute - after delays which were due to factory closure / parts shortage related! It was really annoying that some purchasers at the same time were not charged extra, Breezes seemed to successfully fight for its customers but Eurovans in Crawley (who we ordered from) seemingly made no such efforts and just assumed we would pay the extra - we didn’t, and cancelled! Hymer are up front about their policy, thankfully only the base price has risen so far, the ‘extras’ have stayed the same. Hopefully VW GC quality has improved for new buyers, we have had several VW cars in the past, always good quality, so our GC’s were a painful ‘anomaly’?
