Hi all, we’re in the process of ordering some internal blinds for the front windscreen of a T6.1. There are two options; one without housing and one with. I’ve attached an image from the website showing the with housing option.

Our current van doesn’t have this housing, but we have a new van on order with a slightly different spec, and now I’m concerned the new van may have the housing!

Does anyone know what options on an Ocean would result in the additional housing around the rear view mirror please?

Good question. My Coast has the thin stalk so not sure. I have seen pics of wider housings to accommodate a camera.

All options for a new Cali - the housing holds the camera that is used for the various vehicle systems.

Thanks Dave, so do you think the new one will have housing? Our existing van was built in Jan 2022 and doesn’t have it.

The new one will, but I'm taking a guess at your order as you have not said.

We have a 6.1 July 22 built fully loaded Ocean and that housing is the same as ours - I took it off to fit the dash cam cable neatly.

TBH I would have thought a Jan 22 T6.1 Ocean had as well, assuming again from your profile that is what you have.

Thank you, I’ve just taken this photo of our current van, which I wouldn’t describe as having the same housing as the image from the website.

The only option I can think that may impact the screen is the heated screen option. We didn’t add any of the fancy driver aids, like sign recognition.

(Feeling a bit seasick sat here in the van typing this in the wind haha)

Just had a check of the std spec nothing added Ocean and TBH, hard to say. AFAIK there are two forward facing systems - this camera for road signs and the radar unit in the bumper for ACC.

ACC is std on all, but I don't think sign recognition is.

But - I can't imagine VW don't just fit as std and I may be missing some other uses for them.

I guess worst comes to it order your screen when it comes. We find the fitted ones are fine at a push.

I thought t6.1’s came with front windscreen blinds as standard? Mine did.

I don’t tend to use the inbuilt blinds very often as I find an external cover (Pucer) to be a better option.

All Cali T6.1's have internal blinds but they are very poorly designed, allow light leakage and are really easy to damage, requiring careful retraction into the A pillars. Used mine once and not since. The clips are like hair triggers.

Never had an issue TBH. We use them fine in the winter and in the summer we use an external cover.

For the OP and others - this is a good image that describes how the different technologies ramp together. They are termed "Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)".

I'd still be surprised if you don't have one, but someone else will be able to confim.

Thanks for the image, that’s some pretty impressive tech!

it is NOT the heated screen, as I have that option on mine - built July 2022 - and the housing exactly as your current van.
I was wondering the same when first saw a bigger housing, cause the clips for the internal blinds are easier to unfold in the second case, the rear mirror being positioned slightly lower.
the only option I can think responsible is sign recognition, which I don't have, and presumably needs a camera mounted there.
just a guess, might someone having the sign recognition confirm...

Music to my ears, thank you!

Our car has all the fancy sign recognition and driver aids, and half the windscreen is lost to housing it all!

The rain sensor / light sensor for auto lights, wipers, dimming dashboard at night etc are there, then there's an additional camera if you have traffic sign recognition.
I believe the auto dipping headlights adds another sensor.
Finally if you have the lane assist there's a further camera that picks up the road markings.

This is mine, T6.1 with auto lights, wipers, traffic sign recognition, lane assist + auto dipping headlights.

Our previous T6.1 had the smaller fitting, that van didnt have auto dipping headlights or traffic sign recognition.

Perfect, thanks Andy. I’m pretty happy now I’ve ordered the right one, as we have none of those extra bits (except auto lights and wipers which are also on our current one).
