Hi, as the title suggests we are heading to the Gorges du Verdon area and are looking for a camping recommendation. We love smaller, quiet sites that are away from roads as much as possible. Anything with a pool would be a bonus…anyone got any hot tips? Any other advice would be gratefully received…TIA

I stayed here in May this year beautiful site and ideally located to enjoy exploring the Gorge area. No pool but does have a very good restaurant.

Small tip but may be useful- when you drive around the lake/ gorge make sure you go around in the direction with the driving seat nearest to/ over looking the water or you'll miss the views! Easier to see the corners etc too - depends whether youre in a LHD or RHD van whether you go anti clockwise or clockwise around the lake

We stayed here 5 years ago. Absolute bliss. Next to the river, nice pitches and stunning scenery. Huttopia
Thanks…we looked at Hurtopia but there’s a few reviews complaining about road noise and there seems to be a road running through it??? Was this an issue?

RHD van…thanks!

We were camped right next to the river, so that noise was all we heard, but I can imagine that a pitch closer to the road might be noisy.

I accidently stayed at Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, Camping Manaysse in 2006. The clutch cable went on my VW T2 camper van and I managed to pull into the campsite. They were full but made space. It was a nice quiet campsite.

La Palud sur verdon is a lovely place to stay if you want to ‘get away from it all’.

At Easter we stayed at “camping Bio du verdon“ which is about 1 mile from La Palud - 10 euros per night. Basic but quiet. If you’re going this time of year then the municipal campsite has more shade

We stayed at Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, Camping St Jean in 2019 for a few nights.
They had an on-site pizza van which we made use of. You can walk up into the village from there. It had shade which was a big plus. We liked it.

RHD van…thanks!
Ours is RH too- very small tip but we realised that only one of us could see down into the gorge as we were going along! As a driver you might not want to see the view!!

We have only done that journey on the South side from West to East. I am told that the South side is the nicest road (we enjoyed it). The road was quiet but that may have been due to snowfall overnight, this was late October 2018

I recommend the campsite at Moustiers-sainte-Marie visited at Easter.
Campsite has the most adorable Australian shepherd dog.
Excellent little shop and bar.
Fantastic village, well worth a visit can even recommend a lovely little restaurant called La Grignatiere. Small walk from the tourist area but favoured by locals.
Five minute drive to hire boat's to view gorge.
Brilliant little campsite.

Gorges de l'Ardèche is also well worth a vist.

Dont forget to do a little climbing in the gorge whilst your there, if your not experienced then hire a local guide, its a magnificent setting!

Hi, we are at the Lac de Sainte-Croix atm and the Gorges du Verdon are closed to kayaks, pedalos etc. via the Pont du Galetas access due to the low water level. The lake itself is very low and a bit muddy at the edges.

Camping Notre Dame, Castellane. Small, quiet, simple, clean facilities, friendly staff, within walking distance of a lovely village , restaurants, swimming pool, Verdon trips, bus to the Gorge pickup points. We've stayed there twice and will return next month.
