In the past i’ve had an issue where having set the speed limit warning to visual and audible it always defaulted to vidusl only after a few days. Now it is always defaulted to off when I start my van for a new journey. Also any destinations saved as favourites in my Sat Nav disappear if i park up for any longer than a few minutes. Very frustrating having to reenter destinations. Anybody else had this?
I’ve also discovered a ‘Service Mode’ menu by holding the Media Pro Menu button for 5 or 10 seconds. Anybody used this menu for anything?

Hi GG,

there was / is a discussion on the T6 forum regarding the service mode on T6.1

mines a t6 so it uses a different platform, I can’t add any more info I’m afraid.

you know a company who does though !

Hi GG,

have a look at this thread from T6 forum, should give you a broad understanding.

Thanks. Poor signal where I am but will take a look in the next day or two.

Had a look now @Perfectos thanks. Long thread and all looks a bit scary. Don’t think i’ll be playing with it. I’ll leave it to Citygate when it next goes in. (Mind you I have asked Hamid at SNS if he’s seen the problem before).

Hi GG

I have had the default to visual speed warning from new, but only occasionally has it gone off completely. Its annoying.

I have a completely new Media Pro fault though which I haven't seen mentioned anywhere. Using Google Maps in CarPlay the screen looks fine to start with but then the map image gradually breaks up and the touchscreen becomes unresponsive. If I click back to another function and go back to maps its fine again but then reverts after a few minutes. The thing is its only google maps - all other CarPlay functions are rock solid. I cannot figure out how or why this is happening. Any thoughts?

Have you got off line maps on your phone, also are you using a plain map background or the satellite image, if satellite it needs time to download, depending on your phone signal connection. I was trying out all three map systems on a long journey last weekend, VW maps, Apple Maps and google maps, when I switched to google maps not a lot shown on the screen at first until it downloaded the satellite image, as I had selected that option. Jury still out on which of the three map systems I prefer.

@TR7_Driver no I don’t have offline maps, but it has never been an issue before so I can’t see why it would be signal related. The weird thing it restores immediately to full resolution if I switch away from the map screen and back again. I am using plain maps not satellite. In my experience Google maps is better for a variety of reasons, destination search, real time traffic, routing, camera alerts etc which is why I want to find a fix. I am starting to think it might be the phone that is the problem so I am going to test it with my wife’s phone next.

I’ve seen that screen break up when using Waze.

Maps all load OK it’s just that any ‘favourite destinations’ i’ve loaded don’t stay put. Annoying because I like to load 3 or 4 destinations at a time when going on a tour.

That's interesting. Presumably Waze is also from the phone using CarPlay? Weird isn't it? I cannot figure out why individual apps would cause this issue.

The screen breakup seems to be the result of an over the air software update pushed out by VW recently - at least for me. Seen this reported on other 6.1 forums. There was mention of some conflict with any VPN installed on the phone but all the mapp applications were working fine on Carplay for me until last week - a few days after I got a software update.

Hello
My Google map has started mashing up occasionally. Anyone had this, where the map itself (not the side bars) starts to pixelate? If I fill the whole screen with the map, then revert to the map/music combo it seems to clear, but only temporarily…???

Are you using satellite display maps, could be a download issue to your phone, not keeping up, with your journey.

Same for me and many others. Was working fine for over a year and only started having problems last month after VW pushed out a software update.

This won’t help with the issue but I have used the VW nav, Google nav and Tomtom nav for iPhone through CarPlay. For what it’s worth I have found the Tomtom the most user friendly and reliable of all 3. It loads faster, is always up to speed on traffic etc and gives less silly directions than the others. Just a thought……

I have the same thing happening on my non-pro Discover Media. In addition there are times when the map renders fine but my position on the map is off. In both cases (as others have noted) going out and in again corrects the fault.

I have also experienced exactly the same issue with Google Maps over the last 3 or so weeks. Was about to post to the forum on it. Have to turn off the screen and turn back on again for it to right itself, but it to then scrambles again after a few minutes.

I too have found TomTom for IPhone to be the most dependable, via CarPlay. Its offline function is useful when abroad (and not roaming) though it takes longer to load at start up - I assume because it first searches for a mobile signal.

Just to report no issues here and FW all up to date. We use Waze mostly and the biggest issue we have is it not finding GPS and we have to unplug and plug back in again. Apple most reliable but worst image and no traffic, Google OK - they own Waze so background data same.

Didn't even know TomTom had an app.... but having checked it out, and given Waze is very good and "free", not sure I'd pay a subscription.

Yes Tim, this is exactly the same issue I have been having for a good few weeks now. Also gathered from others on here its a common fault. Also lots on Apple forums saying it that it affects a lot of cars with VW based infotainment including VW Skoda Seat etc and suggestions that a car firmware update in October has caused a conflict. iOS 16.2 doesn’t resolve it. It has also been suggested that a forthcoming VW update in 2023 will fix it. I have resorted to using built in VW nav (not great) until the fix comes.

Use Waze?

We can only hope that VW are working on a software fix but this time are actually testing it properly before it's pushed out.

Slightly off the exact topic….. I find the voice on Google and Waze a bit too harsh and without any softness (yes I know, it’s only a ‘puter) but I like the voice on Tomtom, she is calm and reassuring. Also Waze just seems a bit too childlike in its presentation and operation. These are of course personal opinions and I am a bit of a grumpy old man! :D
