Looking to find a site for this weekend somewhere around the Poole area that's near the beach. We have been to Pembrokeshire for a few weekends recently so a bit spoilt with such great sites on the coast with great walks, are there any similar sites with electric around the Dorset coast that can be recommended ?

We always stay at South Lychett Manor when we go to Poole. I believe the bus goes from right outside their gates. Closest beach would be Sandbanks and you'd need to get up early if driving there to avoid queuing as I expect it will be busy!

Swanage area.

if you fancy a day trip to poole, you can get the boat from Swanage pier to poole Quayside (return), boat goes past Old Harry etc. Very nice on a sunny day & avoids all the traffic and parking issues at Poole.

Nice Sandy beaches nearby, search National trust site for a particularly good beach!

Toms field campsites is very popular campsite, there are others and Pubs that will allow overnighting.

Durdle door not too far away

Highlands End at Bridport is good, but a holiday park with statics etc. good on site cafe and shop, and pool. Walks from the site to Eype beach and West Bay along the South West Coastal path. Good views from the touring fields.

Pop into new forest loads of campsites good beach at highcliffe, mudeford and not too far from poole, sandbanks is crowded and overated!

You're probably better off on the Purbecks side of the Harbour. Burnbake or Norden Farm are both sites we've enjoyed staying at.

As per previous posts, Toms Field at Langton Matravers is lovely, but likely fully booked. More chance of a place at Acton but no EHU, but if just a night or two do you need it? Further inland Burnbake or Norden Farm are nice but no beach nearby.

Just booked Woodyhyde on the purbecks, not sure how far from buses to Swanage. If you take your van to Swanage not allowed to park by the beach as the van has cooking facilities....

You can catch the train from Harmens Cross.

You used to be able to catch the steam train from Harmens Cross to Swanage. Worth checking

We took the early morning ferry from Poole to Cherbourg earlier this month and spent the night on the Brittany Ferries dock awaiting the ferry. There are loos and a shower open all night. No charge.
