Hi guys
Can anyone help me? I borrowed my friends California cost and the awning fell off whilst driving ☹️
I need to buy 2 new brackets for it but I sure which ones I need.
It’s a 2021 California coast but no name on the awning I’ll attach the pics any information would be amazing it supposed to be out for rent again next week so trying to get it sorted ASAP
Thanks in advance

Looks like it’s been loose for quite some time

We were at a CAM club site last year and was talking with a camper owner who had found a couple of lads trying to unbolt and remove (steal) the awning.

Reading stories on the internet, this is becoming more of an issue.

The awning brackets are each attached to the roof structure by 3 bolts, then the pop top roof sits down on top of the brackets.

Had all 6 bolts been removed? If not, have you checked that the threads in the roof haven’t been damaged?

Similarly, have you checked that the pop-up roof itself hasn’t been damaged in the process?

Here’s a link to the front bracket:

I am sure all the spares are available in the club shop. The link is at the top of the page.

Fell off? That is shocking!
Thanks stu@rt
Yes I had a lot of rain on it in snowdonia but I think it may have been blown upwards from a previous rental which weakened the brackets and just my luck the rain weakened it the other way and snapped it off

Thanks for all the info luckily nothing else is damaged just why you can see in the picture I was really lucky and only doing about 25mp when I saw the back fall and swing down bending the front one. I had driven from snowdon to Loch Lomond like it-it could of ended worse

VW warranty ?
I borrowed it from my friend and her insurance only covered the dents and scratches from it falling while I was driving. They said not covered for the awning making the damage they would have to investigate why Vw brackets are weak ‍♂️

I’ve bought this it was the last one so thank you so much ☺️ I need one more and the ones for sale in this shop are this one-

Fiamma Adapter Brackets Trafic Vivaro Primastar for F45 F70 Awning 98655-854

Do you think that’s the same ?

@Longtoothstan those won’t work unfortunately, the awning supplied with T5.1/6/6.1 is a Thule 5102. Local VW dealer will be able to order the rear for you if you can’t find it online

@Longtoothstan the part number of the front bracket you ordered is 7H7877238B. From some Googling, the part number of the rear seems to be 7H7877238C

It’s good if you to try and sort it out but at the end of the day I wouldn’t worry too much as you didn’t break it and it’s your friends issue to sort.

Thanks for the alert. Following a windy holiday in Scotland, there is a slight rattle from my awning. Now I will check the bolts. Are there thrust washers or similar fitted? All advice welcome.

Could just need checking that it's gone away tight enough. Wouldn't be the first time I have put it away and had to revisit it with the crank handle for a few extra mm to keep it quiet. There are other posts about the plastic anti rattle clips sliding too. If they have moved, they might not be doing their job properly.

My 2017 T6 had a drivers side rattle for about six months, finally tracked it down to rear awning bracket. Rivets joining two parts bracket had worked loose over 4 years. No way of tightening them up. Was concerned they would snap eventually. Luckily had manufacturers extended warranty and VW fixed at no cost to me. VW would only fix it under warranty if factory fitted during build.

Have you sorted this? We have an old Thule awning for a T5, having had to replace ours recently after the material split. I haven't looked inside the box the garage gave us but I hope we've been given all the fittings. We're in Brighton.

Same problem here, quite a big rattle, will check as soon as I'm home on Sunday!
