When would I be getting a notice about a first service?

On the MFD, multi function display, Under Service you should get details of Oil Change and Service in miles and days.

Look on We connect should show how long to go.

My is 11 month and 8000km old and is need 1st service - i am surprise so soon and so little is I using and already it need attentions!.
Toyota can many many thousand km and time drive before is need such attentions.

Vw is must program California computer such it makes regular service business incomes for company!.

^^ Modern diesels need to be driven, they are not designed for low mileage. Hence yours is asking for an oil change.

Thanks everyone. I have looked at the MFD and seen the numbers. Just surprised that it seems so long until needed.

I used to service my Land Rovers every six months, regardless of mileage. Mind you most of them operated the "continuous oil-change system." I stuck it in the top and it thoughtfully came out the bottom.

Seem to remember mine (MY21) had its first service at about 8000 miles. I’m up to 17,000 now and it has now had the 2nd service. I just go by what the vehicle display tells me.

Mine asked for an oil change (and got one) last month: then 10 months old and around 16.000 kms. So it is driven Yet a first oil change.
The first oil change has more to do with how you drive with it. That’s what they told me at the dealer when I asked why already a first oil change. With a t6.1 it is the car that tells you when, not the dealer.

Modern longline oils/lubricants are very different to the old mineral oils. They are also very hydroscopic and absorb water from the atmosphere from the time the can is opened. If the engine is used frequently and allowed to get unto temperature for longish periods this water is vaporised and removed, if not it builds up. There is an oil sensor which monitors the state of the engine oil and depending how you drive will indicate when the next oil change is due. the more use then usually the longer interval between oil changes. If the vehicle is not used then the oil is still deteriorating.
On my T5.1 I regularly get 20,000 miles indicated between oil changes although I do change it annually. However during 2020 and 2021 it indicated a much lower interval, sub 12,000 and in 2022 upto 16,000 and now showing upto 20,000 plus over 2 yrs but I normally do 15 - 20,000 miles a year.

Our 22 Ocean emailed the dealer asking for an oil change at around 13'000 Km. Moderately hard driven with trips to Sardinia and Ireland, plus some local tooling around.
The dealer said "Bring it in and we'll reset it". No. I was sceptical of VW's statement when we collected it new that "at about 24'000 Km", it would request an oil change and had already decided I'd get one done around 12'000. My reasoning is that the oil gets hammered with a new engine, with small grains of metal as things bed down. The price of an oil change is cheap insurance, so it will go in during the next days.

When should I get my first service.
10k miles and 11 months old.
It’s asking for an oil service.
Then guess a major service would be in 2 years.

I’ve got the free 2 services from VW.
Looked in my emails, but before I call VW and ask them what’s included.
Is it the first oil and 2nd Major.
Or can I pay for the first and third. (Oil only)
And get the 2nd and 4th free ?

I had to do my first oil change at around 10k miles / 8 months old. I queried this as I expected to be on a long-term (18k miles ish) service schedule.

I got the first oil change and was told the schedule could be set to 'long-term'. The mechanics struggled with this, and I was back on the shorter schedule.

I moaned to VW. They gave me a 'free' service. After that service, the schedule was set to long-term. And now, at 45k miles, I am on a long-term service.

I think there were some issues across the board with T6.1 engines resolving to the shorter service schedule, and a lot of fleet operators were getting very annoyed.

Sounds interesting. I’m wanting to keep the vehicle for 20 years, do around 10k miles a year.
So I’ll stick with a shorter plan and get serviced every year.
Might get a better discount in 10 years if the engine fails
I suppose a money making scheme. If it reverts to a short term plan.

I believe the vehicle can be set to either 12 month / fixed mileage or variable, the latter in theory calculates when the service is needed based on driving patterns etc.. - to my mind, variable servicing is only useful to fleet managers. If it's your personal, owned vehicle, I would always stick with fixed service intervals.
