Is there a suspect cracking fault with EGR Pipework?
I have started to get an exhaust smell in the cabin but no excess noise from the exhaust pipework my friend said he read somewhere about the EGR leaking is this a common fault

Wouldn't say it was common but there are reports on the T6 forum, which covers the T6.1 of cracked EGR pipes and an updated design. Some have had them replaced on the drive by VW Assist. If you are a member call and say you are concerned about the exhaust smell. The service is run by the AA but insist on a VW Assist technician. If they cannot fix on drive they have priority with local dealership.

Don't suppose it coincides with excessive fan noise as you turn the ignition off does it? Just wondering if you are aborting a DPF regen?

Let us know the outcome.

Let you know had the repair done at DT AUTO SERVICES
The offending pipe to mounting flange show black soot and a definite crack on the joint

The van is 5 Years old and came secondhand to me
Going on a weekend away will let you know if the repair was successful

I had a smell in the cabin. Turned out to be a snapped bolt on the exhaust manifold

The 174ps T5's have a problem with the manifolds warping, I'm on my 3rd one
now and have a cabin smell of oil/diesel, my egr was replaced with new pipes
approx 5k kms ago. So it can't be my egr.
There are some companies who make a stainless steel manifold for the T5
I think that may be my next choice, although they cost around 600€
