I was interested to understand why the VW Uncomfort (to me anyway) mattress is different thicknesses? The Section nearest the tailgate is thicker than the rest of the sections ? and not the same thickness all the way through , like a traditional mattress .
When you have the rear boot shelf on the higher setting for more space , you then have to lower the shelf to make use of the VW mattress , making it a hassle for quick overnight stays by moving stuff out of the boot to lower the shelf ! or maybe I'm doing it all wrong lol . Thanks

I keep the shelf at the higher level, but sleep head nearest the front seats, not the other way around with heads near tailgate. You can get a thinner section from the club shop if really needed.

Unfortunately you’ve described the issue accurately as I experience it too - I am not able to help just to validate …

The the thin sections of the mattress are positioned on top of the cushioned seat base and back, so the mattress doesn’t need to be thick. The thick rear section of the mattress is positioned above the parcel shelf so needs the extra thickness . If you never sleep downstairs you can leave the parcel shelf in the upper position otherwise you just keep it in the lower position. Having said that it’s not the most comfortable….. we got S2S to improve things!

Thanks for your replies guys ,
I think I’m going to invest in a mattress of some sort that’s the same thickness all the way through, and store the VW mattress at home .
Being that there is 4 of us , space is as always premium and having the boot shelf on the higher setting is needed , and as mentioned when we have a quick overnighter ( ie travelling down to Spain next year) I won’t have to faff about lowering the boot shelf and moving stuff about .
I will have a look at the club and see what they offer ? I will also look to sleep” head “ to front of Campi and see if it a little more comfortable?

TBH I found VW comfort mattress very comfy. It's just that setting up the downstairs bed requires too much hassle. Whenever possible we use just the top bed.
Admittedly it's not handy if there are >2 occupants or there's the need for stealthy sleeping

The you won't have a level bed? The 'comfort' mattress' just makes the uneven back shelf/seat flat, which is a great base for a Zonesleep topper which folds away in 3 in unison with the mattress. Perfectly comfortable for me, but a bit chunkier than a perfectly designed VW mattress could be...

We always sleep in the roof bed so have been keeping the folding mattress topper at home. Just put it back in the van the other day as we might try sleeping 'down' sometime - it takes up a hell of a lot of space! Must check the shelf height.

We normally sleep down, I find it very cosy ! kids sleep up, although I think the boy will be sleeping in the outside tent soon as his younger sister annoys him now lol. So we may swap around for a change
and give it a go .
I also find the mattress takes up a lot of room , on the flip side it dose stop me taking too much crap when we go away :)
