New to the club!

Hi all,

Just purchased our first T6.1 VW California and looking forward to many adventures ahead. This forum looks fantastic and a great community

First question (!): is there a knack to turning the drivers seat to face the rear without it either getting stuck on the steering wheel or the armrest/seat adjust getting caught on the door frame?

Welcome Tom, yes, it is really quite awkward to turn around - steering wheel has to be raised and the seat set at an exact angle - you need to play around a bit but once you have done it and remembered the positions it becomes a little easier... a little!

It’s a pain, as there is usually just two of us we just move the passenger seat. The drivers is too much of a faff. I’m sure it gets easier the more you do it but not worth the bother for me.

Thanks for the welcome and good to know it isn't just me doing it wrong! The passenger's side does seem a lot easier...

The other thing I've noticed is the buttons on the air con control above the rear seat get stuck down (on) and need a bit of fiddling to release sometimes. Has anyone else noticed this or is it worth talking to the dealer first?

I’ve been watching this in anticipation of collecting our new van.

I would recommend that once you find the position that works for rotating the drivers seat, you mark the seat rail with the position even a pencil line will last for years.
Makes it easy next time.

Position the seat runner so that it exactly lines up with the fixed runner below it at the front. Fold seat forward and turn it - obv doing all the arm rest and hand brake bits. Well that works with the T6 - may not with a 6.1.

Also just two of us ( oh and the dog) so we only turn the passenger seat, it really is too much of a faff.
Would suggest when turning passenger seat make sure the door is open as even when you get positions right it can rub against the material of passenger door and mark it !

The easiest way is the rails - use the slider to have the rails align so that there is no inner rail protruding out of the front and no inner rail too far back. You can move the seat forward and feel this with your finger. Then wind the seat down to 45 degrees and drop the right hand (closest to door) armrest. An easy way to see the seat is in the right position is the tip of the headrest is in line with the middle of the door.

The reverse is then true for putting back - the inner rail check is still at the front but the armrest is now furthest from door. Once you know where the rails align it's simple.
