New van’s arrived ...... but!

New van delivered , delighted to finally see it and it looked fab despite the delivery dirt which we were happy to deal with ourselves. However after washing it soon became apparent the bumper had been scuffed and closer inspection of bodywork showed a slight indent to one of the doors. Pretty disappointing but went straight to Dealer who were more than happy to suggest solutions and we really helpful. So in relation to the bumper, they will drive to us and replace this but have identified that the door problem is a manufacturing issue called a ‘pull’ in the welding process and they say will possibly disappear in warm but can reappear! Solution options .... live with it or send the van for a repair which would entail cutting van door inside weld away from outside to release, not recommended and could interfere with strength of door. I wouldn't accept that regarding the door issue. That's nonsense that it will go away and come back with changes in the weather!
Sorry you have experienced some issues, but as said above, it sounds like a defect and should not be accepted. These vehicles are not cheap!

Also sounds like my back, works great in the warm weather but plays up in the cold.
Is your brand new Buzz a 50 year old back, that’s been broken ? Nope. Reject and you want a new door fitting.
 
Any chance of a photo of the dodgy bit?
 
What a load of bull! Get them to fit a new door.

I used to work for a shipping line that shipped new cars. Cars damaged in transit get surveyed & professionally repaired before they are handed over to the dealer (and the carrier settles the repair cost ). Sounds like yours either slipped through the net, or, the damage was caused in the dealers carpark and they are trying to save on the repair cost.
 
Yes its a brand new vehicle and what you are describing doesn't stack up to any sort of quality control standard. So I would escalate to the most senior person you can get to at the dealership and talk to VW customer service. They are obviously winging it and a new door should be provided under warranty. If they don't play ball, you can reject the vehicle. I expect they will sort it.
 
To me it's straightforward it's a manufacturers fault so therefore new door no ifs or buts.
 
sorry to hear this, having just collected my new van it should be a time of joy not have this dilemma thrown into the mix - if it were me I know I would want it properly repaired straight away.

I have never heard so much BS regarding the door, pure fob off, hoping you go away.
you need to put it in writing ASAP, rejection of a vehicle is only possible within a very short space of time after receiving.

don’t let them do the bumper in isolation, without the door being replaced, it will eat into the time for rejection.

the door is a manufacturing fault, state that in writing andd your intention to reject the van if not agreed by the end of the rejection period,
manufacturing faults do occur but should not be shipped And the customer should not be expected to suck it up.

Sorry to hear about this ! Either the dealer hasn't checked the bodywork or has tried to fob off the damage, I mean a scuffed bumper on a brand new vehicle? They could easily have fixed that bit at the very least. It's not on, hope you get it sorted easily.

How long do you get for the 'rejection period' anyone know?
 
I'd also be concerned that replacing the door will require fresh paint.

Being new there is less risk of a mis-match, but I'd highly recommend having someone (professional) who understands paint check things over when sprayed.

You will need special lighting to show any mis-match or imperfections. Ideally this cost must be covered by VW.

I have seen too many cars that have been resprayed only to highlight a mis-match when under certain lighting conditions.

Makes me wonder if the ‘delivery dirt’ was left on the vehicle to camouflage the damage. Sounds very dubious.
 
Would have thought that the Dealer could find a new Commercial Van with the same colour to do a door swap.
If you have an opening window in the door might be more difficult to source.

Whichever method used still down to the dealer to rectify.

They are, in no way I have to say, trying to wash hands of it but the whole saga has left us feeling a bit flat as now looking at van going off for repair.

But you are entitled to a loan vehicle of equivalent or higher specification.

You are also entitled for some compensation for the disruption and distress caused. This may be monetary or goods.

There have been a couple of posts on here where compensation has been provided. I do not recall seeing any numbers but perhaps this is linked to a gagging order by VW at the time?

I suggest a couple of 1000's would be the figure to aim for.

Goods in kind may prove easier and more beneficial....service plan, extended warranty, accessories? Have a look around the showroom and work out what you would accept.

I would say your primary aim is to get the door resolved, properly.

Our order took 48 weeks. We had a huge discount of circa 18% on our 6.1 due to a written off T6. When the 6.1 dumped all of it's engine oil VW UK flatly refused to provide any further goodwill. I got very annoyed at the time.

The process will be painful please don't add to your stress by focusing on further "compensation". You want the door resolved, properly and quickly. Good luck. :thumb
