Hi all.
My name is Noa, and I’ve recently bought a GC 600, an amazing camper as you already know. I have discovered one problem that is having me scratching my noggin. Although everything works as it should except when I hook up to the electrics, my leisure battery will not charge, it charges when the the engine runs and the sun decides to come out, but not when hooked up. Has any body else encountered this, and if so how did you rectify it. I’m just hoping it was not designed this way. Hope someone can help.

Hello Noa - not got an answer for you other than checking the battery is connected properly - I have seen comments that the lead can come out (it looks like a kettle lead apparently, under the passenger seat) - but 100% it’s not designed that way, it absolutely should be charging when you are on electric.

Thank you I will look at that, any help is a great help. Thank you dennfo

Per previous answer, yes, it should charge on hookup. Two main checks are 1. The mains charger under the passenger (left side) seat, the mains lead can come loose, ensure the connector is well seated. 2. Check all switches are in the up/on position in the utility cupboard. consumer unit.

Hi. Yes I’ve checked the consumer panel and all the switches are in the up position, I’ve not checked under the passenger seat yet, as it’s got my pup snoozing away, but I will check that.

Well I’ve tried everything, weird this one, all the sockets work on EHU but still not charging the leisure battery. Engine charges the leisure battery. Just so annoying when you have such a great vehicle and this messes with your noodle.

If you are away, buy a cheap battery charger and plug it into the 240v socket / battery. Then sort it out when you get home.

Probably nothing to do with your issues, but I had exactly the opposite - would not charge when driving. A software update at VW did the trick.

Have you checked the lead going into the battery charger as suggested above? This is normally the culprit.

I too am having the same issue as Noa. I have rented a GC 600 with plans to purchase the same vehicle after a week test trip. I hooked it up to electrical at a campsite this week & it initially showed the leisure battery was charging, but later I checked & the battery was at 50%. I then received a warning about the battery going too low, so at 10:30 pm, took a drive for about 20 minutes & the battery was back to 100%. I am having some work done before the purchase & will be sure the shop checks the charging issue.

Problem resolved?

I had a similar issue with my T6.1 California Ocean. It turned out to be a failed DC to DC charger coming off of the inverter. It was repaired under warranty.
