As per many others our exhaust has rotted through on both the outer boxes (mentioned on MOT last three years). I checked on replacement prices with our local Kwikfit and they can only supply genuine VW parts, for £1020 fitted. I’m obviously inclined to wait for it to blow, but has anyone found a better deal than that one?

Have you looked at PPTuning, they have a good reputation for their exhausts for VWs.

I had my rusty original exhaust replaced with a Milltek stainless steel exhaust. Way cheaper than VW exhaust, will last for ages and sounds great!

Stainless U.K. made is the way to go

i think I right in saying it’s a straight through pipe, no additional Db , better performance lasts forever

Any one know if you can fit the shorter back end off a T6.1 exhaust to an earlier van. Current exhaust finishes about half way down the van, T5.1 went right to the back bumper.

My understanding is that the rear pipe section Is somewhat redundant as the work goes on up the front end !
suppliers of non OEM exhausts are superior to VW OEM and there is no potential loss for a shorter / longer system ?

I was thinking, saw it off where the T6.1 one ends & put on an exhaust trim that points down.

I'm researching a replacement in stainless steel. Most adverts mention that the product is manufactured from T304 grade stainless steel, but this is usually described only as rust resistant. Is this the normal standard?

Yes. Best grade

Answered my own question, thanks, Google.

Coincident with @WelshGas reply

I had a custom stainless steel one made by Tony’s banks exhausts in Leeds, highly reccomend and they have many brilliant reviews, was about £500 and I have some nice real carbon fibre exhaust tips poking out now :)

These exhaust have a sacrificial outer unlike other exhausts and as you have found the loss of the outer is not a mot failure and does not mean imminent failure you having had it noted for the past 3 years. Don’t take it to someone who replaces exhausts because guess what they will sell u an exhaust. That’s why in my view a good local garage with which u have a long standing relationship is better than any exhaust shop. Online there are various reports of exhausts going 10yrs after the outer has gone. Ps/ my local garage with genuine vw parts quoted me half of what you have been quoted.

Many thanks for taking the time to respond, a great reply. Yes, I have used my local garage for a few years now having not a great feeling about our nearest main VW dealership. I was interested to see your comment about 10 years further life once the outer skin rots; that gives me some confidence for our forthcoming Spain/France trip that I was previously thinking I wouldn’t risk without renewing the exhaust.

My original exhaust lasted 14 years and I replaced it with a full stainless PPTuning system which was about £360 including postage. My local VW specialist fitted it in half an hour.
Very pleased with the product. It's been on for 15 months now.

Same here, PP tuning straight through St/St exhaust with curved outlet, great quality and no issues in 2 years. Fitted by PP Tuning in Lincolnshire, a great bunch of lads.
