I got quote for service £162 from Preston with club discount.
I tried Liverpool who quoted £192
I asked about discount and they said no because it is already discounted?

“As your vehicle is over 3 years old it qualifies for a fleet rate, the actual retail price for this service on your vehicle is £255.00.” This actually gives you more than the 10%.

How much does other people pay for there small service?

So Liverpool quote is the standard price +VAT

Thank you. Very interesting.
Iooking at those prices I don’t understand what they said about it’s already discounted then?
So by the looks of it they are not offering a 10% discount?

I just double checked with them and:

“No we cannot give discount on discount.
Full retail price £255.00 less the club discount would be £229.50.”

Can anybody explain why they say it is already discounted?
The prices Andyinluton posted said the price is standard?

so you qualify for the lower price (fleet price or loyalty price as they often call it) as your vehicle is over 3 years old, otherwise the standard price is £255. So I guess Liverpool are saying they will not discount the over 3 yo price of £160+vat as that is already a special offer, whereas Preston ave applied a discount to it.
if no big issue I’d go to Preston, if it is a pain pay £30 more at Liverpool.

Sorry that was a miss send before i had finished typingI was going to go on.
Ii was going to ask
Is everybody paying the £255 then?
When they say they offer 10% off is that just for vans under 3 years old?

Whilst at Liverpool VW on Wednesday (28th April) I was informed that Swansway (all their VW Sites) are no longer offering the 10% California Owners discount on any services unless the vehicle was supplied by them. This includes servicing and accessories. The reason given by the service desk was that they were having to give discount on already tight margins to anyone in the owners club and they were not making any money out of it! As I had bought my Cali from them in 2019 they were happy to continue to offer the discount.

I had a major service and Timing Belt/Water pump replacement at VW Birmingham Van Centre at end of March along with MOT. I also had the auxiliary belt tensioner replaced as it was whining on start-up.

Whilst the major service was covered by a service plan, they did honour 10% on everything else. No labour charges were applied to the auxiliary tensioner replacement as they already had the front of the Cali removed to do the timing belt.

VW Birmingham Van Centre is part of the Swansway group.

I do not mention about the 10% discount when booking, I leave it until I am sitting at the desk whilst they are compiling the invoice.

Also preston said they would give 10% last week??
I don’t mind if they do or they don’t , im just after understanding really.
I might look at serving else where but I don’t want to devalue the van when it comes to resale and with so few local vw van service garages they have you stuck.

Sounds like total BS.
Years back when I worked for Peugeot Manufacturing, we used to get parts at network prices.
I remember my local garage quoting me £135 to supply a 309 clutch kit. I bought it through work for about £12.
The dealer obviously isn’t playing fair...

Doesn’t surprise us at all, typical poor service from Liverpool Swanway. Vote with your feet and go elsewhere, that’s what we did when buying as the experience with Liverpool Swanway was dire. We use Llandudno for servicing, if need be we would go up to Preston, anywhere but L S.

And you don't have to pay Tunnel or Bridge tolls :)

Don’t start us on having to pay for the Mersey tunnels, it’s scandalous! We’ve paid enough to buy that tunnel over the years, two of us travelling daily to and from work for 35 years. Don’t miss that daily journey one bit.

Mmmm.... no comment. Not till I get my van serviced anyway :-/

I’ve just a a quote from an independent vw specialist
“ A full service is in region of £260 +vat. This includes all filters, oils and top ups. Brake fluid change is £35+vat.”
It only needs an interim service at the moment so I’ve asked for that.
I'm concerned about resale though.
Full dealer service history seams to be what people like.
I suppose being a vw specialist they would know what the service schedule is.
How much would you save and how much would you loose in the long run?

Newer Cali’s don’t have a service book anymore, it’s all digitally recorded which is a shame, I like a service booked all stamped up.
If you service independently whilst under warranty you may not “benefit” from updates etc that may automatically be done during a dealer service.
Based on the independent price you quoted it’s not a massive price difference especially if you buy a service plan from VW.

Check out the VW website for service plans. You might find that this suits you. Pay up front or monthly.

Just enter your reg and mileage.

At the new year (just gone) VW offered a 20% discount on a 2 service plan. This was a very good deal and provide 1 minor plus 1 major service. Fluids and filters are included.
The offer was posted on here and many like me took up the offer.

This person got the discount on the 16 April this year. There can is over three years old and was not bought from there.
There didn’t seam to be much logic to it?
