2 November 2024 - just went to look at the configurator - no California Ocean???

Just looked myself, no Ocean what’s going on? Is it the end or has it something to do with the ongoing issue regarding the leaking pop top roof? Hopefully some one on the forum has some inside information.

Beach would be gone as well if it was to do with the roof. Although you can’t “choose” the Beach either despite it being on the list.

End of an era??? Is this the end of the transporter based camper? I feel all emotional :)

It’ll probably be back tomorrow!

We are currently making updates to this page. Please check back later.

You can configure any other van on there but not the Beach, and the Ocean missing. Could well be the end…!

I noticed too. My guess is that they filled the order book this month and there will be no more T6.1 Californias. I ordered mine on Tuesday. Perhaps it will be one of the last ones?

No web page now for any VW vans... it just has:

California Chris has said that it has been removed pending more info on the T7, so I guess that’s it for new orders. Also, I understand that the new canvas has now been upgraded again and existing “new canvas” vans recalled.

Sounds promising (again). Where did you hear this?

California Chris says:

'The T6.1 model isn't available to book as we wait for news on the T7 model. If you contact your local dealership, they will likely have some stock models that you might still be able to order.'

I’m sure that it was a Youtube comment that I’ve only just watched but, of course, can’t now find!! Very specifically said that the recall and updated canvas was called #C. Hopefully, your dealer will know about this ‍♂️

Fairly standard website back end update by the looks of it.

Been more useful to paste the comment and reply in than the whole video. Manufacturers don’t just pull whole models from websites without warning in my experience. CC is 25% useful, 25% waffle and 50% confused from the videos I’ve seen. Like most dealers. You cannot configure any vehicles at the moment because the engine and database for the configurator is being updated. No more complex than that, although a stupid time of day to do it. We would do this sort of thing at 2am when all the forum watchers were in bed!

edit. And as if by magic it’s up and running now but bit by bit. Give it another hour.

The end of the Ocean? Not what I was told today.
Infact there are vacant build spots that VWUK have committed to take from the factory, hence the extra incentives like the recent offer of £1500 of free options and The 5+ Promise ( 5 Services, 5Year Warranty, 5 Years Roadside Assist and 3 MOT's) to help fill those slots.
Also dealers are also being offered extra Incentives to register more demonstrators which will end up on the forecourts.
The demand for vehicles by younger purchasers using PCP and HP is now dwindling, the dearer Oceans being especially hit. The government policy is taking effect!
Instead of no T6.1 Californias next Spring, there MIGHT be a lot of vehicles for sale.
This has happened before with run out models.

You didn't enjoy the video?

Just out of curiosity I thought I’d see if the configurator was working on the VW Germany website. It isn’t, but it’s not working in a different way. It just says (in German) “the object cannot be found here”. Not proof of anything, but had the configurator been working it would have been interesting.

The French configurator is working fully normally.

Seems that it’s website updates, not the end of orders.

I think the point was to show the comment Chris made about orders? The video as posted per sey has nothing to do with the thread. And no. It’s been a while since he made a decent video with his update ones been worse informed than we are.

ok. Best get back on topic...looks like the transporter California will be available for a while yet? Be interesting to see if there are any changes/revisions to the configuration options when it is functioning again.

The configurator looks like it’s back up but no T6.1 Californias.
