Hi,

On the website where you buy the vignette it has 2 categories - 2A and 2B, motorhomes fall into 2a as it says :

Motorhomes

In most cases, you must apply for a 2A vignette for motorhomes. Unlike other vehicles, for a motorhome , the emphasis is not on the height of the front axle. Instead, the equipment of your motorhome is looked at. If your motorhome is permanently habitable and the means for this are anchored in the vehicle, you must apply for a 2A vignette. In all other cases you must apply for a 2B vignette.

However, they list (and this is on the govt website) a California as 2B, twice the price

I don't mind this as only buying for a week but just wanted to point it out as I have seen threads where some people say that if in the V5 it says motorhome then you are ok with a 2A but if it lists it as a van you need a 2B - the Slovenian website says if a California then a 2B!

Seems a bit unfair as everything is anchored, maybe it's the lack of a toilet! Who am I to argue!

In May in our T6.1 Cali we were charged 15 euros for the 1 week vignette at the toll booth for the Karavanke Tunnel and the same amount at a filling station on the way back. Looks like they assumed we were a 2A. Maybe best not to bother with the website?

So it's actually easy to buy at a border crossing? I'm crossing from Austria to go to Lake Bled and only in the country for 4 days so didn't want to have to go looking around for somewhere to buy one.

Appreciate the answers, thank you!

Go for the cheaper. If it looks like a motorhome, they will accept it as a motor home. I have my Cali (German import, reregistered and with SLO plates on) here in Slovenia and it is recognised as 2A. Your UK one will be too.

Use the website. It’s easy, immediate and they recognise UK number plates. All the Slovenian Vignettes are electronic now. If you buy at a fuel station, it will be electronic. Highways have NPR to check and random revenue vans from AMZS (I think) mainly looking for trucks. Police are not interested. (It’s DARS, not AMZS)

If you are travelling though Austria, don’t bother with the Austrian website as they have a stupid 14 day + 4 day rule which means you have to buy 18 days in advance. But from any services in Germany once you are below Munich. Easier than queuing at the Austrian border.

When I had my UK T6 camper conversion in Slovenia (technically a commercial vehicle due to current DVLA stupidity) I always used a 2A and there was never any issue, though by the letter of the rules, it was a 2B.

Both Austria and Slovenia are 10 day vignettes - crafty if you are on a 14 day trip!

Thanks for that, great answer!

I already got the Austrian one, luckily I am there for 10 days and just happened to look online 18 days out so it worked perfectly!

Enjoy Slovenia

Bled will be busy. It is full of tourists . Also try Bohijn (I think that’s how it is spelt)
Thanks, yes, it will be busy, we booked the campsite in May and could only get 4 nights!

We're only travelling from Luxembourg so just nice to have a break away and from what I remember of the 2 days I spent in Slovenia about 15 years ago it is a truly beautiful country!

I was in Slovenia last year and had no idea I needed one, is this new?

Just done similar trip. Bought vignette on first motorway petrol station after getting on motorway after Lake Bled on way to Ljubljana.

I didn't until I read this post. We may be going that way in the Autumn. I assume it is just for motorways, like Switzerland?

Just returned from a month in Europe and went on all non toll roads and no motorways in Austria and Slovenia etc so take the small roads and see the best of the country without buying a vignette :)
