Hi, I was wondering if someone could explain to me how the Mobile Hotspot works in the 2019 cali Ocean.

It has the Discovery Media Navigation System Plus in.

There is a TV in the rear of the vehicle that has been installed, to connect it to the internet I have tried connecting to the mobile hotspot in the vehicle. It connects but has no internet access. When I have the vehicle connected to a network via WLAN the mobile hotspot works.

Surely this defeats the objective of having a mobile hotspot in the vehicle, otherwise id just use my phone direct to the tv.

I have activated "Car Net" (We connect), but still the same. Am i doing something wrong at all? Is there soemthing im missing?

I would appreciate if someone could explain it to myself, id be greatly appreciated!

TIA

If I remember correctly you need to buy some massively overpriced data package via weconnect in order to use it as a mobile hotspot. You are far better off using your phone if you have a inclusive data package.

Don't even try. The hardware is quite old and slow and half the time you'll struggle to get any connection with the VW hardware. A better option is - as Andy also said, use the data package on your phone or better still, get a separate data dongle and keep it plugged in.

Thank you- from reading around a bit more i think a data dongle might be the answer. I see you can get some cheap data sims on the market at the moment!

As mentioned while you have a WLAN hotspot that a device can connect to it’s not necessarily connected to the internet. Think of it as a router in your house that is unplugged from the internet. You can still connect, but cannot browse. For this you need to buy a data plan through VW that is overpriced and makes no sense. Only then can you connect through.

We just use our phones as a hotspot. No different to buying a dongle and already on our data plan.

If you're looking around for a dongle, consider this one or similar.

One of the biggest advantage is - if I keep it plugged in and charging all the time (off the leisure battery and stuck to the kitchen cupboard), it restricts that overall charge to 80% itself and therefore, never overcharges, leaving the battery healthy longer over the life of the device.

Good speed and an option of external antenna if required.

What cheap data sims have you been looking at…?
I use 3 data sims, pre-loaded with, 12 or 24 GB data that lasts for 2 yrs from activation. Works well in Europe, for me.
Buy from Amazon .
