Wardrobe shelves fail……

I fitted some home made shelves in the wardrobe a few weeks back and all was good for a few weeks. I used good quality double sided tape for the brackets and it seemed to do the job well. That was until I opened the wardrobe after a very hot day and the shelves were all lop sided. Anyway I’ve done a much better job 2nd time round. I used sticky back mini trunking with slots cut out where the shelves fit. I used the same shelves and they are a very tight fit in the slots in the trunking so they are pressing the trunking against the wardrobe walls. Hopefully this will do the trick. They do feel much more sturdy now. The trunkings are not cut where the shelves are only the lid which again makes it a very tight fit

Looks like that may do the job!

As an alternative, what about some kind of hanging wardrobe storage solution?

You can get very, very high temperatures in the vehicle during the summer, especially if it is closed up and in the sun.

Very true Mr WelshGas. I think the method I’ve done now is similar to the method of fitting the shelves you can buy from camper van bits etc

Personally I can't understand Not using the hanger. Everything that can go on a clothes hanger goes there, except for outdoor coats that hang on back of drivers seat. Everything else, clothes related, goes in soft zip bags in rear wardrobe.

3M VHB RP45 tape is your friend. If you thoroughly clean and wipe both mating surfaces with pure alcohol or similar before mounting it'll never move. Obviously, the downside is it is being such a strong bond, you'd better be certain it's what you want before you apply it!

se the hanging space. It allows you to also put your wash kit in there sitting on the floor and can be used for passports etc in the bottom

Of course you could buy the Yes campervan shelves and still have access to the rail. But they don’t really add much extra storage and the price!!! :shocked

I made some free standing wood and plywood shelves that fit snuggly in the gap with no attachment to the van itself. Covered the shelves in sticky backed plastic. Looks good. I was worried about rattles but it's been silent even when empty. Only cost was the plastic.

When you say rear wardrobe, are you referring to the section behind the wardrobe? The bit that’s more in the boot.

(Sorry appreciate this sounds like a stupid question, but I’d never considered using what we call the shed for clothes storage but the more I think about it, the more I like it).

I've just finished fitting the Yes Campervan shelves. As anything, all depends on personal taste AND use case. For us, we always used the wardrobe for packing cubes, loading it high with our week of clothes. Then battled with the tambor door, had many a lost item down to the bottom of the wardrobe (and thus, rummaging around a loaded wardrobe of cubes), and so on. By the end of the trip, it was a far cry from the tidy organised state it was we left the house

We put the shelves in this week and they are very smart/clean on install - hopefully changes our behaviour RE storage (2 adults, 2 young kids), but there's also no downside really, except the lack of rail use. Which to be honest, we always found pretty pointless.
