I have jus taxed my new to me Ocean. £570!! Wowsers I wasn’t expecting that. Didn’t do as much research as I thought………Best use it as much as possible to get my moneys worth

Taxed or insured?
The road tax is not £570, you may have overpaid.

Road tax…. Insurance was extra £30 till end of June when it’s due and added to my multi car policy. I just inputted the number on the green slip. All the correct details came up on the DVLA website

That’s the Luxury Car Tax. After 5 yrs the Road Tax drops to ? £250 or so/ year.

Thought that was for the Beach Tour. Aren’t campervans taxes at a flat rate £325 per year I think.

It’s a T6 & some of those were hit with the luxury car tax. So correct for now but will be cheaper in the future.

Wow I’ve never heard of the luxury car tax before. It’s good news it goes down after next year

No, it’s correct.
Wow!

I didn’t realise what a difference a year makes. My 2020 T6.1 cost £295 to tax last month.

I was told at time of purchase that the gas hob changed its classification. Mad Ting

Are you sure it's next year? It gets charged for the 5years you tax it after the initial registration, so 6 years in total.

My November 2017 registered car is taxed at the higher rate until the end of October this year.

This can be shortened a bit apparently if the van is is taxed twice in the first year, ie dealer taxes it as a pre reg van & sells it after a couple of months, new buyer taxes it in month three then that seems to count as the first of the 5years after the initial registration.

If you go onto the .gov site to check if your van is taxed & put in the V5 number it will state the date the liability for the higher tax expires.

In the long run you will be paying less as after 5 years you only pay the standard rate which is currently £180. Ive got a 2022 T6.1 and that is £325 now as newer Cali's are taxed under a different class but that price will only ever go up.(it was £295 when the van was new)..so light at the end of the tunnel. I look back to the days of my mini Cooper D ..£0 road tax ...and it still is :)

Could be the over £40k value of the vehicle for 5 years from 2nd tax date.

Paid £325 for 12 months 2022 ocean

Yet another reason to buy a Crafter or MAN TGE and have it converted, none of that high rate VED applies!
Does the high rate apply to a GC?

Nope.
**Edit
Actually, some of the 2019/20 models MAY be affected by higher tax.

VED on our 18 Reg Ocean 150 should fall from £520 on 31 October 2023, but to what I wonder?

Thank you, andyinluton that's quite comforting.
Are you sure it’s this October though? My nov17 car is at the higher rate still until end October this year.

Yes, checked with DVLA against the 11 digit number on the V5, website says words to effect that 'Higher rate ends 31 October 2023'. It was pre-regd in July 18, we are '2nd' keeper owned since Nov 18, I think we may have benefitted from it being pre-regd & thus a short 1st year. But time will tell!

My 2020 Coast cost £520 last January  I’m still outraged how the DVLA can charge different prices for the same vehicle!

Is it a 2.5tr.? These got hit with the high tax as per big 4x4 vehicles
Unfortunately I have one of these, and currently have to pay £615 every year for my road tax - Only found out after I bought the van.

Just paid 220 Euro to tax my MY23 Coast in Germany. At least this goes someway to compensating for the criminally high insurance rates.
