Hi all,
We have our new ocean 6.1 for just over a month now, and we are still getting familiar with it.
We thought our lane assist was acting up but now have noticed it only becomes active when we drive over 60km, is this normal?

Yes, from factory it only works from 60-65 kmh.

And if I may add… it’s not very good

at least for us it panics too much, loud beeping that we’re not in the middle of the lanes, so much that we’ve switched it off

If anyone has similar experience or even better some tips on how to make the best of it let me know

Mines arrived without it ,dealership looking into it still waiting for a reply from vw brand

salesman, said if it’s a miss build I can request a new van and keep mine until it arrives, trouble is the bayleaf green can’t be ordered any more so may be my only option.

Honestly don’t bother, it’s not very good, keep the van! And as said above ask for a refund and some goodies

On the face of it I think that offer is quite good. Order a new van in a different colour keep and use yours for a year until the new one arrives. Depends on what ‘strings’ they attach to the deal.

thanks for the advice, let’s see what they offer, getting a new van in 12 months would be nice, but the colour options on offer now don’t really stand out to me

Same as ours, it gets very excited and flashes up on the central display to drive in the middle, fine on the autobahn, but can get a bit annoying on the regular roads.

On the flip side, I did test it, empty road at night, hands slightly off the wheel and as it started drifting right on a left hand bend, it sensed and then pulled the wheel left and around the bend.
Don't really ever what to be in a situation where I/we have to rely on it, but good to know it's there should that ever happen. Personally I'd say a little annoyance is worth it.

Our Cali has the option as we bought a pre-ordered one and disengaged the Lane Assist after a few days. I would never have ordered it when I specced it myself. (Same goes for the Media Pro system. To much coins for what you get.)

Lane Assist was included with my van, which I bought "blind" in order to avoid the order delays from VW direct. It's fine if you're on nice flat wide German roads but I found that on narrow twisty country roads it was like driving a blancmange; the system was always trying to correct as I was cresting the white line on a bend. So, I turned it off. The handling improved so much.

However, if I'm doing a lot of motorway driving I turn it back on - very good "nudge" if you get the nodding dog.

I have it on another car as standard kit, resets itself to 'on' automatically every engine start, and honestly I would pay good money to have it disabled if I could find someone with the necessary skills. Maybe useful on a m-way/autobahn if you begrudge the cost of a shot of coffee at the services, but on real roads with real road markings just a PITA.

(Sorry, wrong side of bed this morning... :mute )

We are all just a massive test program for the systems that will permit driverless cars in the future - one day the configurator will give you the cost option of a steering wheel for that nearly authentic driving experience ..

Yes we're all to be infantalised. Back in the day, this was everything a real driver needed:

(1930 Bugatti Type 53, 4 wheel drive, 300bhp, as raced at Monaco in 1934. Only optional extra would have been a cigarette lighter for chain-smoking Disques Bleus while wrestling with the four speed straight-cut gearbox. Lane Assist consisted of big arm muscles.)

Agreed 100% ! First thing I do when I get in my Audi is turn the infernal system off !

Yes bay leaf green is pretty, but not as pretty as a free year in a California PLUS the latest MY23 in a years time.
Fortana red looks like a great statement colour, but white and ascot grey make the van look great too.

it gets admiring looks all the time especially when the sun is shining on it, I agreewith you ,fortunately red or white with sports pack added look great too and probably the way we would go if I get 12 months free motoring
