Hello,

I'm having issue with control panel knob light on my T6.1 Coast. Some nights the knob's light is off, some nights it stays on the whole night and is really annoying, waking me up several times a night.

So does anyone know what's the deal with the light in control panel knob? I can't find anything in the manual about this issue. Any idea how to turn it off?

Thanks in advance!

Nobody? At least please tell me if the light normally stays on the whole night on a T6.1.

Mine stays on but hasn’t bothered me yet. Be better if dimmer though

Ours does not stay on @sagy
Is it worth trying the lighting controls on the camping control unit? There’s an option to switch off all living area lights. I know it’s not in the living area but who knows?

Does Camping Mode make any difference. I aways pop camping mode on - not just to deactivate the headlights etc, but so I know where I am with the inteior lights too. Otherwise you end up being plunged into darkness when the door opening timed delay has expired.

Just curious to see if that is where you inconsistency is coming from?

I always have camping mode on. The time the light was off whole night, I accidentally turned off the fridge before bed (also wasn't on hook up), next night the fridge was on, electricity connected and the light kept on glowing. Tried switching off the fridge again, which didn't have any affect, but I was too tired to plug out the socket.

Switching off all living area lights does not affect the light in the knob.

The cali is new, have it for 2 months now, we did some weekend camping before with my family , but can't remember if it was on during the nights.. I'm guessing no, otherwise it would have bothered me.

It seems so random when it's on.. :(

Stick a bit of tape over the light when you go to bed.

The light in the knob is always on on our cali; almost 3 months old.
I cut a piece of paper and before go to sleep, slide it between the screen and housing if the screen, from top to bottom over the light(s) and knob. Because, yes, it’s rather a disturbing light, especially if also your fridge is on (and maybe you’re on hook up).

I tend not to see any lights at night because my eyes are closed when sleeping.
That is of course after you got to sleep, it concerns before you fall asleep ;)

Have you raised the issue with your VW dealership?

I do think it bothers a lot of owners of the T6.1 because you read about those annoying light a lot on several forums and fbgroups…
People just trying to find a solution. I have one and put it already here.

OK, just checked mine. 1st photo shows switch with inner ring unlit. 2nd photo shows switch lit after pressing it.

Just stick a black or other coloured plastic disk on the knob.

That is a good tip, thank you. now we are still traveling and so we do it with a piece of paper. For me, the luminous button in itself is not really disturbing, but with the bright orange icon for the refrigerator and possibly that of the hook up it became very striking. For my wife anyway ;)

Use one of these coloured acrylic sheets , with a hole for the knob, which could have an acrylic disk cover, and a stick on fabric strip hinge.

You gave me a brilliant idea with an acrylic sheet: because that way it's dimmed anyway and you can still see what is switched on. I'll execute it as soon as we get back from this trip and my wife will be happy.

When I've got the pop top up, I just hang something over the net that hangs across the opening (where you go 'upstairs') to block out the lights.

Reviving this thread, I had to Heath Robinson a bit of cardboard over the knob light at 2am this morning, which genius at VW thought fitting a mini supernova to the control panel would be a good idea! Anyway, has anyone come up with a neat solution to this? Or am I destined to be sticking tape and plastic to the control panel every time I go bed :headbang

I’m a newer van owner too, and the light are too bright. I don’t know why VW chose to have them on the entire time. It’s changes the entire sleeping atmosphere in the bus. I’m writing this to bump this thread to the top in case there are any new good ideas to darken/cover the lights.

It is also too bright for my wife. I cut a strip out of a dark plastic blue bottle and stuck it over like this. Now it's dimmed and softer. You can of course still push and turn the knob.IMG_9326.jpeg
I don't know if this will work for you, but it does the job for us.
Greetings

We’ve never been bothered by the light but another idea for those who are is to place a suitably sized bottle top over it. The one shown is from a Diamond Bright bottle.

Yes, will work but there are other lights and for me dimming is the solution; Everyone has their own opinion on this, of course. I even got the idea for coloured foil -or in my case a strip of plastic- from you some time ago if I remember correctly. Thanks if so ;)
