Hey all.

We have just dropped over to Paris for the first run of the season. On arrival we found the roof mattress covered in mould (yes should probably have checked before leaving). As we are less than one year into owning our van (2022 Ocean) - were we supposed to take the mattress down over winter?

Thanks.

Where was the Cali stored? Did it see a lot of rain before being winterised? Mould might be indicative if other issues eg blocked drain tubes. Under normal conditions the poptop should be dry.

Hey,

She is an outdoors girl as we use her all year. It is only on the mattress and not the sides or roof. Maybe it was sweaty from use and should wash before winter?

My California is kept outside 24/7 for past 8 years.. No mould. But was the roof canvas and mattress totally dry when last closed.
I also have 2x Disposable Dehumidifiers in the van 24/7 replaced as required, and it is my daily driver.

I guess be thankful it's just the mattress! Does sound like something was damp when it was put away and while the outer elements that were originally damp and now dry the damage was done and spread.

#1 love juice in the mattress that wasn't dried out after a heavy session.
#2 roof was put down wet and stayed down.

You shouldn't sleep on a mattress if it's infected with mould so sleep downstairs
until you replace it.

Very odd pretty sure it was all dry. Does anyone know if it is worth having the mattress cover cleaned or where you would buy a whole new mattress?

I would give it a good jet wash and a thorough dry out before returning it to the roof. If the covers unzip, take them off and wash them separately.

We have never had any mould; Roof must have been damp when you closed it.

Just take the covers off the mattress and give them a wash.

Thanks all. It is only the mattress that has it. The side thermal covers and roof has none. Yes the mattress cover unzips on the t6.1 version.

What do you mean by " side thermal cover "?

My cali had mold when purchased didn't realise. Removed covers wet vac'd .Diluted White vinegar and wash covers in machine then white vinegar .Air out off van as smells for a while .2 years and no smell or mould.Good luck.

Also use silicone dehumidifiers in van all year helps with condensation on windows .Also check window drains as if they leak into van sills. Will always have issues .Did a post on how to check /fix.
