Van Security

Over the past months having camped in some remote locations etc. There’s been a few occasions when you wake up to noises or talking nearby the van late at night or early morning. I’m considering some type of camera system whereby you could monitor whats going on outside, it would have good night vision etc, and possibly record, hopefully someone has some experience with this?

Iv also seen a number of vans with ladders, what’s your thoughts on how much of a security risk this is when parking and leaving the van unattended?

Remote locations often attract people for various reasons. The park4night spots local to us tend to be known dogging hotspots, hot hatch racer meeting spots….but also fantastic locations in the day with amazing views. Some are national trust car parks but police turn a blind eye provided you are gone after breakfast and don’t leave any mess.

You hear everything in a van as there is very little sound insulation. Just make sure everything is secure at night & you are parked in spot with a phone signal. If anything happens you can just drive off.

Helo,

I thought about this as well. I think there are two scenarios 1.) When away from the camper and 2.) At nights sleeping in the camper.

I believe there is a good video on YouTube about this, I try to find it later (I am out and about at the moment).

I got a small security camera to se if somebody just is around the campers sliding door. The issue is Internet connection....

At nights I just switch on the alarm. That should be OK to warn us if somebody tempers with the doors.

Beside this I try to pick a parking / overnight stop in areas that seems to be safe.

Hopefully secure Grand California

Yep, I live at the seaside & the local beach carpark has been put on at least one of the parking up apps recently, so vans are often parked there.

It's a very well-known place for drug dealing, dogging & there's been a murder down there...

Seen some good videos on van cameras on YouTube.

Oh! I love a bit of excitement, any chance of the location.

Yes, I added a camera system after a boy racer banged on my window in the middle of the night!

Seems to work very well.

Ha, ha, one of the towns situated on the A55...

I did think to comment on the app, but it would just look like I'm a grumpy local. I'm not sure people realise how deprived some of the local communities are along here.

Front and rear dashcams with parking mode?

Hello,

I found the Youtube video I mentioned earlier:

I thought the information was quite good. I could not bring myself to do something similar because installing cable in the Grand California seems to be not easy.

Regards,
Eberhard

Hi, I don't get why people are fitting ladders to GC600s; it’s just a magnet for numpties.
Cheers

Deprived or Depraved.?

Have you seen the video of the mobility scooter pulling a caravan?

That was around here.

Thanks for that, good watch!

Thanks Eberhard, it’s a good watch. Iv looked at some of the Wi-Fi cameras that have inbuilt batteries claiming to last from 180 days to 365 days, they are rather expensive though, with one even requiring an Ethernet connection to a router... and a home hub not sure what the easy answer is here, hence the reach out.

Thanks again for the video find.

There are some very good videos on YouTube under the ‘Life is too short’ titles. A retired police officer’s advice on wild camping in the UK. Some excellent advice and tips from a very experienced ex officer. Highly recommended.
